It’s not just the two boys and the coach plucked from the cave who deserve to be Thai citizens

There is enough food,  enough resources, but the problem is the feeling the rich have is that they somehow will lose their riches if they share.  They play it safe and turn to selfishness and greed.  A human trait. Nothing out of the ordinary.

obtaining much-awaited Thai citizenship.

  • citizenship isn't the issue; the issue is being treated well, 3rd world ideaology and human rights at odds; expats here are often not treated well; citizenship , in this case, is just a convenient label

They are immigrants who have crossed the border from Burma and Lao but if they were born in Thailand they can apply for citizenship. Problem is they have no documents which makes it difficult to prove when they arrived. I do understand they just cant just hand out citizenship to all that arrive otherwise more will come.

just let the process proceed as usual. if they do get fast-tracked because of their ordeal at the cave, imagine what others might do just to get the same treatment immigration-wise. they were trapped in a cave and the whole world is elated all of them made it out alive. they also deserve all the support to recover physically and psychologically, but i think that's as far as it should go. giving them extras, would send a bad precedence to people who just want some "attention".

When it comes to giving citizenship to outsiders, Thailand is very stingy and selfish, there're hoards of people who made Thailand their home for decades and has contributed immensely to what it Thailand today, having still, to be subjected to tedious and time wasting lining up like sheeps every few months to earn the permit to stay in the country...

Best post I have read in a long time.
