webfact
Nonthaburi marching band home in triumph from Taiwan By The Nation Photo / Facebook page of Payom Junnoi, director, Suankularb Witthayalai Nonthaburi School The marching band from Suankularb Wittayalai Nonthaburi School won first place in two categories at the just-ended World Guard Indoor Taiwan, school director Payom Junnoi announced while welcoming the band members home at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Monday night. Thirty teams from 10 countries competed in the July 13-15 event in Taipei, with the Nonthaburi fifers and drummers taking top honours in the Winds Scholastic Open and Percussion Independent Open. Participants from South Korea were impressed enough by the Thai band to invite it to perform at a festival there in October 2019, Payom said. The band, which competes in overseas competitions to gain more experience, previously won titles in Indonesia and China. Band member Khomkrit Suriya, who’s in Mathayom 6, said the team rehearsed for the Taipei event for four weeks, knowing the two categories it was entering would be challenging in different ways. It focused on maintaining order, discipline and patience, Khomkrit said. “Without those qualities, we wouldn’t be able to pull off these award-winning performances.” Source: http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/national/30350228 -- © Copyright The Nation 2018-07-
