webfact
Police: 28 e-waste cases being processed FILE photo BANGKOK, 19th July 2018 (NNT) - The police are urgently filing lawsuits against wrongdoers in electronic waste cases in Thailand and other countries, following their inspection of plants in Bangkok and nearby provinces. Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Pol.Gen.Wirachai Songmetta on Wednesday attended a meeting on the e-waste cases with representatives of the Customs Department, the Department of Industrial Works and the Department of Pollution Control. The deputy national police chief said there were 28 cases of e-waste smuggling in the capital city and nearby provinces. These include plants with a closure order from the Department of Industrial Works and local administrative organizations. They will face harsher penalties if they resume operation, said Pol.Gen.Wirachai. Shareholders and owners of the plants, whether they are in Thailand or abroad, will face money-laundering charges, he said. The meeting acknowledged that the real number of plants smuggling e-waste is higher than the official number by 10 times. Meanwhile, Chief Inspector of the Ministry of Industry, Suraphon Chamat said the recent transfer of the director of the Industrial Waste Management Bureau was not motivated by the government's urgent action to tackle the problem of e-waste in Thailand. He said the director was transferred to pave the way for a person with specialized knowledge and experience to run the division. -- nnt 2018-07-

ChrisY1
No doubt there are nominee companies amongst this lot....likely all are structured that way.....is it illegal? Then of course there's Customs..the wonderful no fault entity of the RTP.....my guess would be that while they have so obviously allowed such huge volume of this waste into Thailand by looking the other way, they will as usual, come out squeaky clean. So the director of the Industrial Waste Management Bureau was knowingly unqualified for his position and it took public disclosure to motivate a replacement of someone qualified? 5 hours ago, webfact said: the director of the Industrial Waste Management Bureau Rintawat Sombutsiri is the Director of the Industrial Waste Management Division (aka Bureau?) that appears to be organized under Deputy Director General Banjong Sukreeta who reports to the Department of Industrial Works Director General Mongkol Pruekwatana who reports to Minister of Industry Utama Savanayon. Rintawat oversees six sub-divisions including four Industrial Waste Management sub-divisions and an International Waste Management sub-division. http://www.diw.go.th/hawk/en/content.php?mode=structure Suraphon Chamat is one of seven Inspector Generals. (I don't see the title "Chief Inspector") http://www.industry.go.th/industry/index.php/en/2016-05-23-03-06-55/history-of-the-ministry-of-industry-6 Within the four IWM and one IWM sub-divisions there are a total of 6 Expert Engineers, 3 Operating Engineers, 1 Scientist "skillfully" and 1 Scientist Operations. There is also a Technical Support and Transportation sub-division that includes 2 Specialist Engineers, 1 Scientist "skillfully" and 1 Operating Engineer. http://www3.diw.go.th/session/personal.asp?id_Org=2097152 I'd say that it appears that the Director of the Industrial Waste Management Division has specialized knowledge available. It also appears that he had previous experience as Director of Production Technology and Industrial. So to say he lacks specialized knowledge and experience to run the division appears questionable. Maybe it is Deputy Director General Banjong Sukreeta who would merit a transfer?
