Police are investigating after the legless body of a man was pulled from the Saen Saep canal in Bangkok on Saturday afternoon.

The body, which had been cut from the waist, was discovered near Soi 85/3 at Ramkhamhaeng.

Police said the victim is a man aged between 40-50 years old who had been dead for approximately two days.

The man had also suffered what looked like stab wounds to his chest and back and could have had his head covered by some kind of fabric, police said.

Police are working to identify the man by checking missing person reports from the last five days, as well as trying to establish his cause of death.

One theory is that he was murdered elsewhere and dumped in the canal, while police also said that some of the injuries could have been caused by a boat propeller.

I wish they could stop throwing all the things in the water. Littering, pullution and plastic eveywhere. Now they even find bodies in the water. I always thought the small ones was dumped in the nearest garbage bin and the fully grown was dismenbered and burned.

No report of possible suicide is a good start to the investigation RIP.

That means the victim must be Thai.

If he was a Farang I am sure it was suicide.

If he was a Thai then it will be the nearest Burmese worker.

If he was Burmese then this is the last we will hear about it.

Identity of man murdered and dismembered established

By The Nation

The dismembered body parts found floating in Bangkok’s Saen Saeb Canal have been identified as those of a 49-year-old Thai man, Winai Jaisaen, based on the information from his two thumbs.

Police are contacting his relatives to provide information for their investigation into his suspected murder and dismemberment, a source at the Royal Thai Police’s Central Police Forensic Science Division revealed on Sunday.

The body identification was made possible from the discovery of his upper torso in the canal near Ramkhamhaeng Soi 85/3 in the Hua Mark area of Bang Kapi district on Saturday afternoon.

The discovered body part indicated the victim was a large-built, short-haired, bearded man in his late 40s, who had also sustained a six-inch-long knife-wound.

His upper thigh was retrieved at 10am on Sunday from the canal near the Rama 9 Pond community – three kilometres from where the upper torso was found. Police suspected the leg belonged to the same victim, said Metropolitan Police Area 4 deputy head Pol Colonel Suriya Nakkaew.

An hour later the victim’s right leg was fished out of the canal only 50 metres from the Bang Kapi pier near Lat Phrao Soi 148, rescue worker Kosol Lawirat said.

Metropolitan Police Bureau commissioner Lt-General Charnthep Sesawet said the 49-year-old victim was a native of another province, who had travelled to Bangkok for work. Investigators have been sent to check his Bangkok residence for clues about his murder.

One reason more not to hitch a ride to Bangkapi on SanSaep. Splashing waters don't require much more pollutants.

Police to be commended.

Dismemberment requires lots of physical efforts, what motive could be behind it. Money 1. Jealousy 2. Revenge 3.

A police officer Sunday investigates the scene near Khlong Saen Saep where part of a human body was found.

BANGKOK — After piecing together the identity of the man whose severed body parts were found floating in Khlong Saen Saep over the weekend, police said Monday it could have been a freak accident.

What appeared to be the last missing parts of homeless man Winai Jaisaen – a left leg and foot – were found in the canal this morning. Hua Mak police investigators said it could be a case of murder. They also believe Winai, 49, might have fallen into the canal before his body was sliced into pieces by boat propellers.

Inquiry launched after discovery of body parts in canal

By Kornkamol Aksorndej

Police are trying to determine if a man whose body parts were found in Bangkok’s Saen Saeb Canal had been murdered.

“At this point, it is still not possible to conclude whether he was murdered,” Deputy National Police Commissioner Pol General Chalermkiat Srivorakan said on Monday.

Police became involved after the body parts, including the head, torso and legs, were found floating in the canal on Saturday.

“But it’s possible that the body might have been cut by propeller blades of boats cruising along the canal,” Chalermkiat said.

Sources have said that the body parts very likely belong to Winai Jaisaen, 49.

According to these sources, Winai was a homeless man without any regular job, who also had a history of seizures. The last time he was seen suffering such an attack was on July 19.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Pol Lt General Chanthep Sesavej said theft and robbery could be ruled out.

“But we are investigating whether he engaged in brawl or was pushed into the canal,” he said.

Chalermkiat said DNA tests were now ongoing to confirm whether the body parts were Winai’s.

“Water in the lungs will also be checked. Results will tell whether he died in the canal or before he was thrown into it,” he said.

At 5 hours ago he could have fallen in , at 3 hours ago he was thrown in.  The Thai translation to English is baffling at the very least.

i was chatting to a Thai friend tonight-to cut it short the direct translation of this fern like vegetable was.  —-   Wait for it. —   THE

Chalermkiat is a forensic specialist also? Or just likes to pretend he is and likes to mouth off. :whistling:

Is he the same guy who recently fronted up at the cave rescue site in the early phase asking about "permits" when the rescuers were desperately trying to save lives?

Well, first thing to know is that when disposing of a body in a river lake, canal etc., remove the lungs. If you can't do that, weigh down the container in which the body or subsequent parts are stored so it doesn't float to the surface. In light of neither having been done here, it was either a spontaneous event, or the perpetrators were not well trained.
