So she tossed out more than 100,000 baht thinking it was worthless. The money was found in a bin by a market in Rayong. Sixty five year old Atchara Kanokphatrakun decided to hand it in to police. Granny Chaluay Sae-tiaw, 83, heard from a friend that the story was in Thai Rath and they were looking for the owner of the cash amounting to 117,000 baht. So Chaluay went to Rayong police where the nice policewoman took her under her wing. Chaluay explained that she has been a lottery vendor in Rayong for decades. She keeps half her money in a tin for daily expenses and future lottery purchases and the other half in a wooden cabinet. But on Tuesday she was shocked to see that termites had got at a 160,000 baht bundle of 1000 baht notes making most of them unusable. She never thought a bank would accept them so she put them in a paper bag and tossed them out in a bin at the market. She met the person who found them and they realized happily that they knew each other. Thai Rath reported that banks must accept damaged notes according to regulations promulgated in 1958. So long as there is more than 50% of the note there will be no problem in exchanging them for crisp new notes.
