I guess 7/11 is a bar on your world.  Take it as gospel bars do not close between 2 and 5 and most stay open after midnight.

The religious closes I can see your point.  Try getting  a beer in Oz on Good Friday or Christmas. Day

Bars in Chiang Mai are definitely closed by midnight. There may be lock ins, but most tourists have no interest in such.

Even Bkk has 1 am closing which is pathetic.

I have been reading the same whining for 20 years and the tourists keep coming.

20 years ago, LOS was cheap and cheerful. The smile was genuine, and it was sanuk mak mak.

Now it's expensive, and the sanuk has gone along with the smile. LOS used to be unique, but now it's just another cookie cutter tourist destination with bad infrastructure.

Seems to be a few Chinese in Cr province - they all seem to be applying for re-entry permits to go to Tachilek or the Golden Triangle Casino in Laos or something. But certainly not the numbers like in Chiang Mai, Bangkok or Pattaya.

The  Casino in Laos is going ahead very quickly.Thats when the influx will come .

I find the airport immigration officers to be the worst out of all the countries I've been to. They're either stone-faced and rude, like you say, or they're chatting away with their colleague in the next booth. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal, except when you've lined up for over 20 minutes in a slow moving line.

Thank u so much for saying that Look i am a patient man but there is nothing worse than meeting an unfriendly face when you arrive in a country It doesn't take much to say hello and a little smile

Thai immigration compares well with US immigration, same shit, rude, not polite, unfriendly

Yeah well, I never would have thought that I always considered Americans to be happy go lucky people. Tell you the one place that did scare me a bit is Australia There they wear black uniforms Remind me about me reading about the ss in Germany There they wore black uniforms also

Came through swampy on Sunday.  2 people in the queue..... Straight through no problem.

However at DMK domestic on Tuesday I got stopped by 3 police as I walked into the departures section before even checking on.  All good and had a laugh with them about Isaan food.  They did take photos of my passport front page,  permission to stay stamp and departure card.

I wonder how many overstayed they will catch if this is the new normal. Might be a heads up to those who say they only use their  Thai DL when travelling on domestic flights.

This is part of the reason I left.....although I was always legal you feel not welcome by the authorities and as soon as you step out of line they might deport you.

I mean who cares. The less westerners, the better for me. There are some girls who will never be attractive or attracted to Asians ?

Plus I can watch footie without having more Arsenal fans around. And with less Russians the crime rate will go down

Russians aren't considered to be westerners. Their numbers are increasing - this report refers to nationalities like the Scandinavians and the Germans.

That casino has been open for more than 5 years now. There are still some projects going on there, just as an airport, more hotels and apartments but the main casino, hotel and Chinatown have been operational for a while now. What do you mean by influx from that casino? It just so happens that the casino hires mostly Burmese and Thai nationals, in addition to Chinese as it's workers. Only about 10% are Lao. The tourists tend to be Chinese and Thai. Few westerners go there, apart from daytripping tourists who come on boat tours from the Thai side and go shopping at Don Sao island, now part of the casino complex.

Yes Russian are Russians, but increasing? There was a proper exodus when oil prices crashed and the sanctions due to Ukraine were put on, I'd say 80% vanished from Pattaya almost overnight. Still 20% more to go, though.

From what I've heard they are now going to more friendly fellow commie countries, specifically Vietnam.

Last night I was watching one of those buy a place in the sun type shows.

The beaches were clean, the water was clean and people were having a morning swim. The 'beach road' was walking only, except for a lovely old re-conned tram shuttle that all day 'shuttled' from the old town market to the more modern resort area. A nice apartment/condo was around 150,000 to 300,000 UK depending on number of bath/bed etc, some smaller ones even less.

The beach road itself looked new but was about 15/16 years old, pristine, no potholes broken drains hanging wires blah blah blah.

The 'show host' mentioned that there had been a big rise, ongoing, of buyers from Germany, Scandinavia etc.

Many really nice looking bars and cafes with white table cloths, comfortable seats

( not even one of them playing Hotel California on loop at full volume ) and well dressed staff blah blah blah.

People enjoying a morning coffee who could see the other side of the table as they weren't sitting in a cloud of black diesel exhaust.

No 'lookee lookee' guys from the dark continent selling crap while keeping one eye open for the Imm' police.

I could go on but my finger is getting tired.

How could they keep a smiling face with a bunch of moaners and whingers around?

Around 2014 the number of Russians suddenly plummeted but since around 2016 they've started returning again, in droves. Their numbers this year could be higher than their previous all-time high recorded back in 2013 or 2014. In any case, there are more Russians coming to Thailand than almost all other European countries combined.

The number of tourists arriving in Thailand to spend foreign  currency is a matter of concern to  Thailand and not me

I don't care if there isn't one single tourist returning to Thailand until  Hell freezes over.

How does it impact me or in any way  to improve or diminish  my  lot?   They can come to Thailand or not come.    I'm indifferent.

I quite often see young tourists wandering the streets at midnight , trying to find some bar or club to go to and them looking disappointed after being told that theres nowhere to go .

Yesterday evening at 7 PM , I saw a Western family (Mum, Dad & two 5-10 year olds) being asked to leave a bar by the Police , assumingly because they were underaged in a bar

Pretty stupid of the BIB.

That family will quickly be on social media telling their story and describing Thailand as not family-friendly.

Maybe it was a bit of a dive? Bar girls? You don't tell us.

Same in Canada.

If you've got kids, you can't go to a restaurant that serves alcohol after 6pm with them.

Thailand's weather is only unpredictable during the rainy season. During the dry season it's non-stop sunshine for 6 months. Mediterranean resort areas also experience sh*t weather during their winter. In fact, it's much sh^ttier than in Thailand, where at least you can expect warmth and some sunshine even during the rainy season, it's not like it rains all the time (except in places like Ranong or the Moo Koh Surin islands, which are closed during the rainy season anyway). But in southern France, Spain etc. it's freezing during winter. Only summer is good for swimming.

Freezing is relative. Gets down to 12, an extra sock, down to 10, put on the other sock.

Army regulations. Sec' 5 sub-paragraph 22, line 6, in brackets.

Gosh.

The one that used to catch out people in Alberta was moving tables in the bar. You could not carry your beer if you moved table to join others. You had to ask the staff to carry it for you.

Not allowed to stand and drink either, you had to be seated.

Well that's too cold for swimming. In Thailand water temperatures rarely drop below 25 or 26 degrees anytime of year - how cold does the Mediterranean get? Seriously, you can't swim there outside of May to October - it's too cold.

Sea swimming not high on my list as an essential.

Not for a viking it is.   Try the Norwegian coast .  Everyone's out swimming when the water temperature reaches 17-18 degrees in June/July .

What kind of entry clicks

'one '  on the computer system at points of entry. I really don't know.

If someone is on say a multi enty 0 and does 4 out ins per year does that register as a tourist entry?

I can see SETV, MUTV and VOA or VE as a tourist arrival,  but go further, say arrive on an METV and within the visas validity do a trip to Cambo' a trip to Vietnam a trip to Laos and one more trip to Burma. For me that is in reality one tourist arrival or is each return to Thailand a new tourist 'click' on the arrival count? In fact all the above trips could be done on VE entry and a second VE entry.

I have no idea, does anyone out there have an idea?

Forget the chinese, they arrive, follow the wee flag for two weeks then go home, one click each.

That's a point I've made before, I travel to Thailand 3-4 times a year. I assume the TAT are counting me as 4 tourists. It would be interesting to see how many unique tourists are coming to Thailand

situation like that would not be so weird in France, Italy or Greece.

One day we were sitting in the beachrestaurant in the resort on samui and i bought a mango from a vendor which was on the table.

A German boy from 4 came to smell the mango all the time on our table but then he even started pissing against the tableleg...i called his dad in german and told him what his son did, he only called the boy back and that was it.

Good that very young kids are not allowed in bars, they also should ban them from resorts.
