Samui operators say it with flowers after Big Joke comes up trumps again

Crime buster Big Joke was presented with flowers by a group of Koh Samui tourist operators after he announced the arrest of three Thais who had helped swindle them out of 3 million baht.

 

The Thais arrested were nominees for a Chinese travel firm called "Romantic Samui" that was operating in Samui and Koh Pangan.

 

Manager said that Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakpal and his team were instrumental in getting the arrests along with counterparts on the Surat Thani force headed by Pol Maj Gen Apichart Bunsiroj who also shared some of the limelight at the press conference on this occasion.

 

 

But it was Surachet - the darling of the Thai media who enjoys the playful moniker of Big Joke - who got the flower basket from a lady representing the ten swindled operators.

 

Manager said he flew in for the press conference.

 

He was earlier reported by the Thai Tourist Bureau website to have been in Samui busting people selling pirated goods.

 

Thaivisa notes that Surachet is the deputy commissioner of the tourist police who have wide ranging jurisdiction far in excess of tourism related matters after changes in the structure of the police.

 

Thaivisa further notes that Surachet has been mentioned as a possible candidate for the head of the Bangkok metropolitan police come the September reshuffle of positions in the civil service.
