rooster59
5 districts in Phetchauburi face flooding as more water drained out of Kaeng Krachan dam People living in five districts of Phetchaburi province have been warned to brace for flooding as more water is being drained out of Kaeng Krachan dam which is now 97 percent full and water is spilling over the spillways. Muang, Ban Laem, Tha Lat and Tha Yang districts which are located downstream of the dam are expected to be affected from the increased drainage of water, said Mr Somkiart Prachamwong, secretary-general of the National Water Resources Office, on Saturday. Relief and rescue equipment sent by the Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department will be arriving at the command centre at the Phetchaburi provincial hall on Sunday. hotchilli
And the officials didn't plan ahead for this, just allow the dam to reach 97% with more rain forecast before flooding the local area... sack them all!!
webfact
RID:There will be no flood in Phetchaburi FILE photo PHETCHABURI, 6th August 2018 (NNT) – The Royal Irrigation Department (RID) Director General, Thongplaew Kongchan, confirmed that there will be no flood in Phetchaburi. Based on the assessment of Smart Water Operation Centre (SWOC), he said water in the dam would start spilling over the spillway at about 10 p.m. Sunday night (Aug.6th). It would take about 12 hours for the overflow to reach Phetchaburi dam which would be able to hold the overflow water from Kaeng Krachan dam for a period of time. It would take another 20 hours for the runoffs from Phetchaburi dam to reach the Muang Phetchaburi district. Mr. Thongplaew admitted that the current amount of the water running into Kaeng Krachan dam is nearly exceeding the water holding capacity of the dam. In order to prevent flooding in Muang Phetchaburi district, Mr Thongplaew said officials had already re-enforced the embankments along the Phetchaburi River ahead of the coming rainy season. The officials had regularly checked the irrigation system to ensure that it is strong enough to withstand the strong water currents. The irrigation department had also installed additional water pumps and water-pushing devices to speed up water drainage into the sea. Mr Thongplaew advised people living along the Phetchaburi river, particularly those residing downstream of Kaeng Krachan dam in Kaeng Krachan, Tha Yang, Ban Lat, Ban Laem and Muang districts to move their belongings, elderly people and children to higher grounds. He said the water level in the Phetchaburi River is still 2-3 meters below its banks, adding that the RID is draining 115 cubic meters per second of water through the Phetchaburi dam and other channels. He confirmed that Phetchaburi province will not be affected by the flash flood. -- nnt 2018-08-

spidermike007
Famous last words. I believe we heard the same statement last year, just before the historic floods shut down the north south highway for a couple of days, and flooded nearly the entire central area with up to one meter of water. These visionary, award winning scientists and politicians are always so willing to tell us the facts, and offer us the truth. So noble of them.
