The bloated body of an unidentified man was found on a deserted plot of land in Udon Thani’s Mueang district on Monday morning.

The body was found near a shelter for homeless people in a 5-rai (0.8 hectare) deserted plot with tall grasses on Watananuwong road, behind a sofa factory.

Wasant Khamkanya, 25, a worker at the factory, told police that when he came to work in the morning, he had noticed a stench so strong that he could not work.

He and some colleagues looked around and climbed over the wall of the factory to see behind it, and spotted the body.

A doctor from Udon Thani Hospital determined that the man had died about two weeks ago.

Police said the man had a rope tied around his neck and ankles. He was well-dressed, unlike a homeless person.

The man, who appeared to be around 40 to 50 years old, was wearing a black jacket over a black t-shirt, jeans and black canvass shoes. He also had a skull tattoo on his body.

Police found on his person a wallet with a Bt20 banknote and some coins, a Samsung mobile phone, a Sony MP3 player, a room key and a tour-trip card for foreigners on Koh Samui.

Nattawut Kwanpadsha, 24, a worker at a nearby rice-grain store, said the shelter had earlier been used by two homeless men and a woman, but they had disappeared from the spot about a week ago.

Foreigner found murdered in Udon Thani woods, say Thai media

Thai media Sanook have reported that the body of a 40 to 50 year old man found in a large area of waste ground in central Udon Thani is that of a foreigner.

And they said that a forensic examination indicates that he was murdered.

The body had been in a five rai area of krathin trees for about two weeks. Evidence that the man had been in Koh Samui was found on the body along with a picture of another foreigner.

There was also a room key and a cigarette packet.

It is not known who he is.

The skin and hair on the skull was now missing exposing the skull bones.

A yellow leather ligature was around the neck. The same kind of strap had been used to tie the feet together.

They said that the man had been well dressed in denim with a t-shirt. A Samsung phone, Sony MPC player and zip up cloth wallet were all found with the body. There was 20 baht in the wallet.

A forensic examination revealed a double devil's head tattoo on the stomach area and broken top and bottom teeth.

Locals said that three vagrants who buy and sell second hand goods in the area and who sleep out there had disappeared recently.

The police want to speak to them but are also keeping an open mind suggesting that the body may have been carried and dumped there.

They are using CCTV in the area to try and get a lead.

The area is nearby Watananuwong Road in the Tetsaban area. The body was found close to a wall adjoining a cushion factory.

Or farang  on farang perhaps?

Nice Thai bash when very little information  has been published.

If you actually read the articles you'd see that the suspects are three local Thai men who have since disappeared from the area. So yes, Thai and farang and no, the cops won't lift a finger to solve it.

RIP. Looks like like a broke Farang, run out of options in life, and killed by someone who are the beneficiaries as suspects.

It is becoming regular news, Farang murdered here and there, also suicide become an regular affair of ThaiVisa news.

Hope there is an end for bad news like this. Be safe.

I wouldn't hold your breath!

no ID in the wallet??? just 20 baht

Very unusual that this is not suicide.

He must have been transported to the  site, only twenty BHT in wallet so he obviously paid his taxi fare before delivery.

The three second hand trader persons that disappeared -- must be Burmese .

Any more clues required please contact Dr Watson.

One would think that a quick look at his contacts on his phone would resolve most of the mystery.

Suspects - yes! Guilty - you've already decided!

Do you honestly think that 3 homeless people (that you have presumed are Thai) would have left the above belongings on the victim?

It said nothing of the sort. Sure the cops said they would like to speak to the three vagrants ( two men and a woman....nationality unspecified)  but also said they were keeping an open mind,  unlike some posters here.

It's not beyond the realms of possibility the three vagrants may have also stumbled across the corpse,  weighed up their chances of being fitted up and nailed for murder and then did a runner. I suspects vagrants would have taken any remaining cash if they had committed the deed.

Time of death approximately 2 weeks ago,  vagrants gone one week ago.  Why would they stay around for a week if they had done the deed?

Hmmm! A Samsung Phone! I have a feeling there might be a clue here?? Just cannot quiet remember what that might be?? Can someone help me out?? Sherlock!!  Help?

The last text was to you. There's a selfie with him and you. And, yes, if they want, they can break into the phone. Though, I doubt they will bother. A Sony MPC Player, that is old tech.

He also had a skull tattoo on his body

Taking a photo of the tattoo and placing it in media sites may help as I am sure if he is living in Thailand, someone might know who he is, having no ID on him, makes me think that those that did him over, don't want him identified as it could lead the cops to them.

RIP

No ID but "a Samsung mobile phone, a Sony MP3 player, a room key and a tour-trip card for foreigners on Koh Samui." might help - especially phone records?

if he only had 20 baht in his wallet it is a classic case of robbery as thats what they usually do in thailand rob you take almost all your money but leave you with 20 baht in your pocket for water or bus fare this is quiet common
