A Norwegian tourist was found dead inside his car on Koh Samui in Surat Thani on Monday evening.

Aspen Anray Solian (unofficial spelling), 28, was found dead in the driver’s seat on Thaweerat Phakdee Road in Tambon Maret of Koh Samui district.

The body showed no sign of violence. A doctor said he had died about one or two hours earlier.

A bakery shop worker said the tourist often dropped in to the store to enjoy baked goods and a drink. After the tourist arrived at about 4.30pm, he remained in his car with the windows shut.

The worker wondered why the tourist had not left his car after more than an hour and so knocked on the window. The worker spoke to the tourist but he did not respond and so the worker sought help from a nearby bar waiter and they discovered the Norwegian was dead.

The waiter said he knew the tourist well because he was a months-long yearly visitor to Koh Samui.

This year, the tourist arrived with a friend three weeks ago but the friend had left.

The body was sent for a post-mortem at Surat Thani Hospital.

Not a normal tourist surely, thats no rental car.

And what exactly is a normal tourist in your eyes? It clearly states that he was a regular visitor on Koh Samui for a month every year.

As far as you or me know, he can own both car and a condo or house on Koh Samui. Would that make him a less normal tourist? I know many people with assets in Thailand that comes and goes as tourists every year.

Indeed there's a whole bunch of farangs in Thailand who crave to be classed as tourists.

...but treated differently.

...and not be called a tourist.

The car appears to be a Ford Escort MK1 from 1973.

Doubt the guy was a regular tourist. Whatever, so what`s it to be, suicide of heart attack. Case closed.

Also possible that exhaust system was faulty on an old car and leaking carbon monoxide into the vehicle;  he remained in the car with the windows shut.  Carbon monoxide is colourless and odourless and high concentrations lead to death in less than five minutes.

Who said it was a rented car?  The guy is a regular Samui visitor and he may have borrowed or bought the car for his " usual month long annual visit"?

Yes it’s got UK number plates on it and the N registration was from the early 70s cannot believe that in all the years I have lived on Koh Samui I have never come across this vehicle .

28 years young,if the exhaust was faulty as some theorise,I am

sure the young lad would have smelt it.

I just hope they find the real cause of his death, and its not just

a cover up.

Carbon monoxide is colourless and odourless; I think it is sometimes referred to as the 'silent killer'.  I'm not theorising anything just pointing out alternatives to the suicide or heart attack options.

Yeah that's a Ford Escort Mexico.  A highly desirable vintage car here in Thailand.  I know at least 2 car collectors in Bangkok who'd love to get their hands on that.

The vehicle has U.K. number plates having lived in Koh Samui for more than 7 years I never ever came across this car which is surprising . RIP to the deceased .

How can you tell what the number plates are?  they are not visible at all in the picture.

Exactly, the pic on yhe blue and white car is 'borrowed' from the net. It has nothing to do with the Norwegian's car.

That model car was built in Australia wasnt it?  There were thousands of cars shipped from Australia to Thailand in the  1970's  mostly Holdens but also some Fords.  That was the era of the big and small aussie muscle cars    Monaros, Falcon GT , Torana 5000, Escorts  and Sandman panel van (shaggin wagin).

A Thai owned an original Holden HQ Monaro coupe-Mocka brown-   in my soi in BKK  beautiful car.  He wouldnt sell it.  Given to him by his father who presumably bought it new.

Straight six....easy to maintain.  Go forever.

The exhaust smoke that contains Carbon monoxide,on  a faulty exhaust system

can you have one without the other as you say Carbon monoxide is odorless,

but exhaust smoke is not,it stinks.

Maybe you're right, but we will never know as there are very rarely follow ups

from the media in cases like this.

Different car. One is an image taken from wiki.

If that is a genuine MK1 Escort Mexico in the post i would be interested in finding the owner of it.

Please don't destroy the observations, theories and final outcome of the TV detectives by stating such nonsense, any half arsed expert can see that's definitely the car shown in the lead story.

Twenty-seven year olds don't die of heart attacks caused by snakes and ladders. Seen when people frequent one place too often and become predictable targets.

Noone has checked his bank account yet?

I 'd be damned if no money has been withdrawn since the guy ended up in his oldsmobile.

Learn to be wise.

First lession learnt in LOS : No money, no honey.

Stick to that and you will be spared.

I do give a hoot.

It's even rarer than that. The decal is for a Mexico. It also has flared arches. If it is a genuine Mexico it's worth a lot of money back in the UK. Currently go for around £30,000 - £40,000 for a good one. What the hell is one of those doing out there?
