Twenty-seven year olds don't die of heart attacks caused by snakes and ladders. Seen when people frequent one place too often and become predictable targets.

Noone has checked his bank account yet?

I 'd be damned if no money has been withdrawn since the guy ended up in his oldsmobile.

Learn to be wise.

First lession learnt in LOS : No money, no honey.

Stick to that and you will be spared.

I do give a hoot.

But what about twenty eight year olds!

what a proper clown comment. Why does everything that happens in Thailand has to be dubious and the start for completely unfounded rumour mongering. There is zero suggestion that this was an unnatural death and you come up with such completely garbage.

RIP to the "young chap"

Yeah that's a Ford Escort Mexico.  A highly desirable vintage car here in Thailand.  I know at least 2 car collectors in Bangkok who'd love to get their hands on that.

Yes, desirable everywhere I should say. Here another with flared arches.

Also possible that exhaust system was faulty on an old car and leaking carbon monoxide into the vehicle;  he remained in the car with the windows shut.  Carbon monoxide is colourless and odourless and high concentrations lead to death in less than five minutes.
I agree to this theory , he could have been sleepy , maybe drugs or been drinking, then he left the engine on and died of poisioning . An autopsy should reveal this. RIP.

The exhaust smoke that contains Carbon monoxide,on  a faulty exhaust system

can you have one without the other as you say Carbon monoxide is odorless,

but exhaust smoke is not,it stinks.

Maybe you're right, but we will never know as there are very rarely follow ups

from the media in cases like this.

regards worgeordie

According to my wife I'm never right!

Agree with you on exhaust smoke smell, unfortunately it can sometimes be ignored with fatal results after only a few minutes.  I have once suffered the after effects, vomiting, nausea and headaches, from driving a vehicle with the hatch back open and the exhaust smoke circulated through the vehicle even though I had all windows open.  Air does not directly pass through the vehicle but causes vortices that cause the exhaust smoke to be trapped.  Seen the same in small open boats with a CS gas grenade in them where, very surprisingly, the CS is not blown away at high speed but circulates within the confines of the boat for quite a period of time.

Sitting in the back of a pick up truck is also not the healthiest place to be.

Sadly I also don't think we will get any follow up on the cause of death.

The car appears to be a Ford Escort MK1 from 1973.

Doubt the guy was a regular tourist. Whatever, so what`s it to be, suicide of heart attack. Case closed.

Why not read the story. Better to spend the time doing that than writing nonsense.

The waiter said he knew the tourist well because he was a months-long yearly visitor to Koh Samui.

The follow up will be what every is the easiest, irrespective of the cause.

The vehicle has U.K. number plates having lived in Koh Samui for more than 7 years I never ever came across this car which is surprising . RIP to the deceased .

Did you have a really really good look at the photograph of the car, seems not - making any 7 year observation pretty worthless anyway.

I have had many FORD ESCORTS in the past and I totally agree with you there, the exhaust fumes that can leak though the bulkhead and the fan heater system. I have had it happen to myself, luckily I knew what was happening and got out.

The article states that the windows were shut, but no reference to the fact that the engine was running.   CO may be colorous and odorless but vehicle exhaust fumes are not. I don't believe anyone would sit in a closed car breathing exhaust fumes unless there were extenuating medical circumstances or they were suicidal.

And what exactly is a normal tourist in your eyes? It clearly states that he was a regular visitor on Koh Samui for a month every year.

As far as you or me know, he can own both car and a condo or house on Koh Samui. Would that make him a less normal tourist? I know many people with assets in Thailand that comes and goes as tourists every year.

Normal tourist ie not a regular visitor, on a 2 week holiday.

After reading the story properly at home I now see that he's a regular tourist.

Who said it was a rented car?  The guy is a regular Samui visitor and he may have borrowed or bought the car for his " usual month long annual visit"?

Never said it was rented just said its not a standard rental car.

RS2000 I thought was a mk2 also has Mexico sticker on the door. Where is the photo showing it has UK plates?

Apparently, the picture used for identification of the car model which shows a white and blue car with UK plates and N registration. Also it seems the "months-long" term in the article makes some others think "month-long"

There's at least one... the vehicle in the OP.

And I have seen others as well in Bangkok and Udon Thani.

Good sleuthing... it's the very same car.

But retrofitted with a Nissan engine so that buggers the old 'Escort gas chamber' theory. But it looks like it was souped up with a Nitrous system so there's another avenue for endless, useless speculation opened up.

The second photo is not the car in which the Norwegian died - just a photo to show the car model.

The doors are wide open on this one detectives,my theory is a cobra living under the drivers seat or even rabies or a dose of novichok.being that there was no ladyboy involved makes this a very suspicious case.maybe some one don't like Ford escort rs mexico's and had it in for him.

Its worse than that its definitely a case of   "mistaken Ford Escort"

Yes -  sure - ? you not see that cars are the same model - but not the same car.

Yes I owned a Ford Escort briefly once upon a time, that was after three Austin Allegros so I thought I deserved a bit of relief

Yes I did see that there were two different cars involved in the confusion on this thread honest

I was just pulling your leg my man because the confusion was cleared up some time back

I did something similar earlier in the thread because I commented on the exhaust gases without reading the whole of the thread, then I saw that I was maybe second at best with my comment so I removed it as I can see no point in being second especially when it had already been adequately covered

I would not normally bother explaining to this extent, but its wednesday again and the "Devil makes work for idle hands"

Everyone to his liking - but I usually answer at something - without reading all pages - sometimes a lot -

If double or fourfold - I not care - ??
