Korean Tour Guide Brutally Assaulted and Robbed

On the 7th of February at 12.30 am, Dongtan Police were called to the scene of an incident at Jomtien 2nd Road.

Police rushed to the scene to find Miss Lee Sun Young, aged 33, a Korean national working as a tour guide in Pattaya, in a state of panic. She was obviously very frightened and shaken. Her body was covered with scratches and bruises and she was bleeding. She was quickly sent to Bangkok Hospital Pattaya.

A witness, Khun Rakjit, aged 41, a water delivery driver, told police that he had been driving along the road and he saw the woman run out into the middle of the road screaming for help; he immediately stopped his truck and gave assistance.

Investigating Police then went to the hospital to ask Miss Young what had happened. She stated that she was on her way to see her friend at the Palm Beach Hotel in Jomtien, and she caught a motorbike taxi in front of the Long Beach Hotel in Naklua. She did not see the face of the Taxi Driver as he wore a full face helmet.

During the course of their journey the rider told her that he was unsure of the location of the Palm Beach Hotel and took a detour into Jomtien 2nd Road where it was very dark and deserted and attempted to sexually assault the lady, who fortunately and dramatically fought back. The rider then cowardly kicked at Miss Young ribs and grabbed her bag containing 10,000 Baht, 600 US Dollars, a mobile phone and some documents, then fled the scene on his motorbike.

The description of the offender was sent out to the official network of Police but as yet no arrest has been made.

Police investigation continues.

Sorry for the lady, according to me the motorbiketaxis have always a number and advertising on their jacket.

What a terrible experience for her.

Again this area around soi 16 Naklua can be very dangerous during the hours of darkness.

If he was a moto taxi driver then hopefully he soon should be caught...........but he could easily have been an imposter just waiting for his next victim.

Anyone staying in this area or visiting including soi Wongamat needs to be extremely careful and wary of motor cycle riders.

A clearer version of events is reported in the above publication: see below:

Korean Woman fights back and prevents rape in Jomtien.

Police Major Anuchaert from Dongtan Police Sub-Station on Jomtien Beach received a call from Miss Lee Sun Yung aged 33 from South Korea who explained that she had been abandoned in an area of wasteland after resisting an attempted rape.

Police Colonel Sutin, the Chief of Pattaya Police also responded to the call and met the victim. Tourist Police Officers and volunteers also responded and helped with translation. She explained that she summoned a Motorbike Taxi in front of the Long Beach Hotel in Soi Wongamart. The intended destination was the Jomtien Palm Beach Hotel on Jomtien Beach Road.

The motorbike taxi driver, who is yet to be caught, told the victim that they would take a short cut and she should not be scared. Suddenly in this remote area of wasteland behind the Casa Jomtien Apartments in Soi 9 off Jomtien Beach Road, the taxi driver forced the woman off the bike and allegedly attempted to sexually assault her.

She resisted and screamed repeatedly which led the suspect to leave before the rape could take place. The taxi driver did manage to leave with the victim’s hand bag which contained 10,000 Baht, 600 US Dollars, a mobile phone, the victim’s passport and personal documents. The Police Chief has promised an extensive man hunt will now take place for this motorbike taxi driver who, for now, remains at large.

Jomtien 2nd road?????

That's the unofficial name for the road that starts at the "Hanuman statue" and runs behind the Palm Beach hotel, past the View Talay Residences and site of the proposed Ocean 1 Tower, and runs parallel to Jomtien Beach Road until Soi 9. It is to be widened as a part of the Thappraya Road widening and run all the way through to Soi Chayapruek. Subject to change without notice. :-)
