On Sat 25th August I renewed my Vehicle Road Tax at the Central dept. Store Beach Road end Ground Floor, Very quick and efficient.

Items required are the Vehicle Log/Registration Book.

( I believe they will even do it with a Photocopy of the book for those on Hire Purchase.

New Insurance ( Only the Mandatory government Insurance Certificate is required is required to be shown.)

Test certificate for older vehicles Car or bike. (Now there are many testing stations around the town)

The two ladies there who were very helpful were informing everybody that they were moving upstairs to the 6th Floor starting from 01 Sept. They said it was a space at the same end of the building ie Beach Road end.

“Don’t shoot the messenger”

Info

This service is only available on a Saturday from approx. 0900 hrs onwards, it’s the same service that was at BigC South Pattaya.

You can do it ahead of time you DO NOT have to wait until it expires.

This service does it while you wait normally 5 mins.

At any other time you can also go to any of the testing stations who do the renewal for a small fee, normally back the next day pickup after 1600 hrs.

To get tax you need to show mandatory government insurance and if older than 5 years for a bike or 7 years for a car a "certificate of road worthiness"

Beware the certificate for road worthiness is getting far harder, when we had our car tested he even switched the lights on. As well as testing the horn . Oh he also got our tax. :)

Yes they where there today  next to the Pizza company  6th floor   Saturdays 11.00 - 19.00P_20181020_112057.thumb.jpg.c9bd106f3b894e9ab8c0f0076fa9af27.jpg  I checked the old location downstairs and the whole "Asian Bazaar"  corner is boarded up

with no sign to say what's happening there    the "laser paintball" place is still open.

Actually it is getting harder   today I went to have my old car inspected,

they tested the lights and (new) alignment of headlights , the brakes and exhaust emission /noise

obviously its not as rigorous as it could be and thankfully not as rigorous as a UK  MOT

(overboard IMHO)

There was a Mercedes Benz  to be checked right after mine..but the owner of the test center  had to refuse to even start the test as Benz's headlights didn't work...he couldn't even fudge the test as its all recorded/photographed which goes into the computer.

He also mentioned that  vehicles converted to run on gas  (LPG,CNG ) will soon have to have the gas installation tested (at specialist center) every year instead of the now every 5 years.

So got my "MOT"  220 baht   and compulsory government insurance 640 baht  ????

they where very busy but worked fast so didn't wait too long

and on Saturday off to "Central" for the Tax disc...

Yes, well next day is rather quick !   which station do you use ?

takes about a week usually because they won't want to be going to the DLT office every day..and you still have to go back to collect it from them..

so I'd rather use that trip to go to Central instead.

I've only just discovered this thread.  I went yesterday and it was a horrible experience.  I'd lost my car book so had to get a report from a Cop Shop.  Took it + copy of 1st page of lost car book + newly purchased car Insurance policy.

The guy on the Information desk was absolutely useless and impolite too.  He had NO ENGLISH.  The forms he thrust at me were completely in Thai.  I had to guess at spaces asking for my address/name etc.  I got it right about 60% of the time!  He made NO ATTEMPT to  assist me and raised his voice in exasperation.

Eventually I got a number & visited two windows where I paid sums of money (I've no idea what for!)  I've been given a ticket to return tomorrow to collect whatever it is I paid for.

How can Pattaya claim to be an International resort whilst employing an insensitive, ignorant Neanderthal as the first contact point for someone determined to do the right thing by taxing and insuring my car.

I had to get a new green book for my motorbike many years ago. I got the police report in the Dongtan police box then the taxi driver I use arranged for somebody to take me there and help with the forms/language issues. He helped fill in the paperwork and showed me what window to go to, as I recall it was actually pretty quick as my bike was in their computer system and they just had to print out a new green book. They didn't charge much either, I think it was around 100 Baht, plus I got it on the spot, no going back the next day. The place was pleasantly quiet as we went around lunchtime and I spent half an hour amusing myself drinking a coconut while watching the people taking their driving test. All in all it was quite a decent experience, sounds like things have changed.

Yes the Barnglamung/Pattaya Department of Land Transportation is very very busy many of the staff overworked and stressed out,my wife has been on the receiving end of the sharp tongue information guy...however we and he did laugh when we pointed out he was incorrect about something (we had to phrase it as if we where wrong but he knew he was)

Just one more government department that needs to move into the 21st century
most everything should be able to be done online by now.
