traffic deaths are not all that much of problem if you are just counting the number dead. Many medical advances in the last 3 decades or so mean many less childhood deaths; so there may be more older road deaths, it all evens out. The number of Thia's keeps increasing. No society wants the heavy hand of government suppressing their freedoms, especially the freedom they'v had for decades..

All this talk about freedom,  is BS.

Somchai only cares about himself on the roads.

and wants to pick and choose when,  and what rules apply to him

as it suites him. ( somchai will run to the cops when it suites him as well )

The Bad Somchai, will kill your children, family, friends and work mates

on the roads or put them in a wheelchair for the rest of there lives.

and just pretended it never happened a few days latter.

also,   he will have no more thought,  of what he has done to the Good people and families of Thailand who have been devastated by the actions of the bad Somchai, on the roads.

You lot go ahead and rally behind the bad Somchais on the roads of Thailand.

i won't.

Ps If you think a change of government will change the bad Somchai, here is  the news,   it won't,   only the very big stick of fines will get the ball rolling.

Good day to you all.

The Thais are so used to being told that changes will be made to help them that only help those that proposed the laws that they now question, challenge, and defy all laws that are not presented to them with verifiable proof that they are intended to really help them. A single internet gateway was primarily proposed to allow the government to more closely monitor what information and thoughts were being shared, kind of like a big brother approach to managing society. Preventing people from riding in the back of a pickup truck means more vehicles required to get people transported to their labor based jobs, which they can't afford. Unquestionably this would save lives...if they don't starve trying to find a local job they can walk to. Heavy fines for traffic violations would be more widely accepted if the public wasn't sure that the intent was just to line some high ranking officials pockets and enforcement would not be based on violations but rather who looks like they can afford to be fleeced.

This resistance is a complex issue that needs to have underlying issues addressed prior to expecting acceptance. But will those in authority feel it is worth their time, and for many, will they be willing to give up the lucrative system they have developed?

A Thai guy on Facebook said yesterday that the new driving license fines would be unfair as half the drivers in his area don't even have licenses.

If you don't educate your people properly, this is what you get.

Perhaps we need to look at this a different way, when a policeman stops a motorist, at an  authorized checkpoint, with an Inspector on site, if the driver has a driving license, he is to be handed a 500 baht note.

Yes, look at it for what it is - detrimental to others’ health.

And it's still safer than riding on a perfectly legal scooter, even with a helmet.

Rather difficult to speculate, as every situation will vary greatly.
