Doubt you will get a jacked up diff locking bush basher but you won't have much trouble getting a Fortuner or Hi-Lux or similar. Biggest problem would be the Phuket drop off. There is Hertz rental, I think? Still at Udon Thani airport they would probably be flexible about where you return the car I don't think any locals will.
