Fourteen female tourists have claimed they were raped and sexually assaulted by a guru at a world renowned yoga retreat located on Koh Phangan.

Agama Yoga lead by Narcis Tarcau, otherwise known as Swami Vivekananda Saraswati, specialises in tantric yoga but a report by the Guardian claims a “sex cult” has been operating inside the center.

Tarcau who is originally from Romania, setup Agama Yoga on Koh Phangan in 2003 after he reportedly had his visa revoked by Indian authorities.

The female victims are understood to be from the UK, US, Brazil, Australia and Canada, while two other men say that the retreat facilitated the “brainwashing” of hundreds of women over a 15 year period into having sex with Tarcau in the name of personal enlightenment and spiritual healing.

Three of the women of say they were raped by Tarcau, while the other say they were sexually assaulted during during private consultations held his office at the retreat.

“It definitely felt like a cult, he put a spell over us and people had completely blind trust in him and his spiritual powers,” one woman told the Guardian.

Reports of the abuse first surfaced in July when some of the victims took to the blogging platform Medium to claim they were sexually assaulted at the retreat.

In response Agama Yoga denied apologised to the victims and denied the school was a “sex cult”.

A statement issued to the Guardian read:

“Agama Yoga is a spiritual university whose core principles are rooted in the authentic yoga tradition. Our teachings follow the principles and teachings of the tantric path. Sexual tantra is a limited part of the authentic tantric tradition and a limited part of our teachings. It is clearly separated from the main curriculum.”

Tarcau is understood to have fled Thailand in July just days after the reports first surfaced on Medium, exiting at the Aranyaprathet border checkpoint. His current whereabouts are unknown.

Earlier this week, Thai military and police carried out raids at Agama and official charges have been filed against Tarcau.

Footage posted to Facebook showed a number of police vehicles and officers outside the Agama resort.

"...Thailand sex cult: Foreign tourists claim rape and sexual assault at Koh Phangan yoga retreat..."

Oh Boy!

"...Fourteen female tourists have claimed they were raped and sexually assaulted by a guru at a world renowned yoga retreat located on Koh Phangan..."

This is going to be international news of the most salacious kind, especially coming on the heels of the purported rape on Koh Tao. Further, the arrests of the people who shared the story on Facebook are going to be plastered all over the stories.

It is sad; Thailand, had you taken the British woman's story of being raped on Koh Tao seriously and done everything possible to get to the bottom of it, this particular story wouldn't be as bad. However, as you didn't, you are going to get slaughtered. And, you deserve it.

Get ready for global headlines, the re-hash of all the Koh Tao stories, the re-hash of the recent alleged rape, and every salacious story editors can think of to add in.

If Thailand's recent focus had been the well-being and safety of tourists, especially female tourists, then perhaps the up-coming stories might have been sympathetic. However, Thailand chose a different path; shoot the messenger and protect the tourism dollar at all costs.

Ain't karma a b****!

Did the Thai police refuse to record the original complaints?

Did the Thai Police receive any previous complaints ?

The KPG Police refused the complaints about the rape on KT because KT is outside their jurisdiction

Stupid people .

Willingly joined a group , willingly participated in all the activities .

Happy there whilst it lasted , now its all over , complaining about being taken advantage of  .

Welcome to the real World boys & girls .

Not much different to the guys who immerse themselves in the "Pattaya lifestyle" and then complain about being taken advantage of when the girls go back to Issan and leave them on their own .

You would have thought that such stories belongs to the 70' and 80' where lost and gullible people were looking for nirvana and got sexually molested and raped by the thousands in style of yogi Maharishi and his ilks, but reading this, it seems that what changes is only time, the gullible and easy people to prey on are still around...

Some of those idiots look like  professional street protestors from Sydney and Melbourne.

No doubt we'll be seeing more of them in the months ahead before the next election.

Conned by guru turds in Asia and by trade unions back home.

Wasnt Jim Jones a used car salesmen before he murdered his flock of 800 or so?

Anyone who think traditional Yoga is in anyway related to a 'sex cult' or this sham organisation is an idiot. Yoga is rooted in Hinduism for 5000 years and deserves respect not ridicule. It is peaceful, philosophical and insightful.

Tantric Yoga is a very small branch and practiced by very few. It seems it was abused here but that is no reason to throw the Yoga baby out with the dirty bath water.
