Big Joke to fly to England to interview teen who claimed rape on Koh Tao

The young woman went back to England, told or sold her story to The Sun which was then followed by an interview with The Times. Both papers are owned by the notorious digger of sleaze, Rupert Murdoch.

Now how many stringers do you think Thai newspapers have in the UK, poised to interview an alleged rape victim who has given no interviews to any other UK newspaper?

There is such a thing as the telephone, you know... Even the Thai police can pick up their phone and make a call to the UK. It works surprisingly well, if anyone bothered to try to do it. And things like Skype and LINE and WeChat, etc etc.

As a reporter, you don't have to be physically present in some place in order to interview a person it that place. Amazingly, it's done all the time.

Have I seen any sentence anywhere in any of the Thai newspaper reports saying the (publication) tried to contact the young woman and was unable to reach her, or did reach her or her family and they refused comment?  Don't think so.

It's easier to just sit in Thailand under a mushroom and be fertilized by the local police.

3 years ago on ThaiVisa-this was the stock standard response.

You are to be commended for your stalwart defense of the Thai press-about 1938 in a couple of major European countries.

(Germany,Russia,Italy and Spain-to name just a few..)

So you can't read or write Thai and thus haven't a clue as to what the Thai press or media writes or says.

The woman in question has refused to give any interviews to any UK newspapers except The Times and The Sun.

Has it occurred to you Murdoch might well have forced her to sign a contract forbidding any interviews with any other media?

Assumptions make an ass of u and me..

You are,of course,on the cutting edge..of pluralism and free speech-as is the Thai press that you support.

Have Thais not yet heard of video conferencing? It's been around for the last 20+ years but perhaps it hasn't arrived in Thailand yet.

You think this woman who gave an exclusive interview to Murdoch's newspapers is going to agree to a video conference with foreigners?!

You don't know that. You're making a presumption without any facts.

And more to the point, AFAIK, you can't point to a single Thai media report where it indicates they attempted to interview the woman and she or her family declined.

It's a normal practice in decent journalism (I'm excluding the Thai version from that) to try to get both sides of any story. And if some main party to an issue refuses to be interviewed or offer any comment, the media outlet will say that.

Here in this case, locally, they're just being overwhelmingly one-sided.

Maj-Gen Surachate, who found no evidence of a rape having occurred on a recent trip to the island in Surat Thani province

This statement in itself is beyond ludicrous.

How do you go about finding evidence that nothing happened ?

Mr BJ goes to KT, parades around with his entourage for a few hours, speaks to a couple of people, sees a couple of places, poses for a few photo ops (the most important part), and bingo! he's absolutely sure that nothing happened, that the girl is a liar...

Even Inspector Clouzot would find that hard to swallow.

Big Joke flying to the UK, to interview the girl who he says was not raped!!!!

Why is he going?? If he says no rape took place, so when he said she wasnt raped, he was telling porkies.

Just shows what a useless bugger he is, surely he will lose face if he goes to interview the girl.

The girl won't come here and the media hasn't let the story die--Thailand image may suffer. So, BJ is coming to the mountain. I am sure he will have a translator with him. Will they interview the girl?

So...?

What is your interest in this case exactly?

Was the Thai police officer who, judging by his "fruit salad"-has served in every major  campaign since the Battle of Marathon in 490 BC invited to the UK and by whom?Has he not already pronounced the verdict in the case?

By the way is  this the Thai police officer-killed at the battle of Arnhem in 1944 judging by his parachute wings-that threatened a Thai internet poster in the UK previously?

Hopefully he will be shunted off-exuent stage left as all of the rest of them have been whenever they "jump" into Europe.

You need treatment urgently. Sri Tanya hospital provides excellent treatment for those suffering from delusions.

Naaahhhh, you get it all wrong.

It is an undercover operation to bring back the Red Bull grandson who, co-incidentially, also lives in London. As the Thai interpol desk was unable to locate him, the visiting Thai police to London might want to check with the TV station which not only found the residence but also caught him on his way sneaking into his home. As the maid did not open the door fast enough, the little c"*ç%t was asked a few questions which he was unwilling to answer.

So, trust the Thai police, they know perfectly well, what they are doing.

She will be swamped with legal council and translators  there's not going to be any of the usual back-room deals on offer, and that may come as something of an eye-opener to him. He has zero jurisdiction. This really ought to be handled by the Thai Embassy in London. Big Egg on Joke face moment coming up, methinks.

He is about to enter the real world

I personally hope it does not upset him too much if it actually happens, if only for the retaliation that might ensue for the Brits 555555

If sperm found on T-shirt turns out to be THAI, this would not look good for Thailand.

i don't think they can tell nationality from the DNA ,the category is usually broader, i.e. Asian or Caucasian.  And on Koh Tao a large percentage of the inhabitants are foreigners, not Thai.

What does "looking good for Thailand" actually mean?

It is an honest question because I cannot figure out what 67 million Thais have as an investment in this.

Unless "face" has gone ballistic and,if it has,Thailand is in absolutely no position to engage in any form of cold war against anyone..well maybe the emperor penguins of Adelaide Island.

"Good evening and here is tonight's news from the BBC... The Thai policeman who conducted a one day investigation in the alleged rape of a UK woman in Thailand and concluded that no rape took place without reviewing the evidence was greeted by 1000 angry members of the #metoo movement in London today. The interview he hoped to conduct had to be..."

There will probably be an inflatable doll made of him and flown over the Embassy

Hope he can bob down to Salisbury, look over evidence and CCTV footage of the two Russki cathedral 'Tourists' and clear that little lot up.

Vlad is trying to taking the p i$$ out of GB, blatantly although he's been doing that to the free world since they didn't send their forces into crimea, didn't down a passenger jet full of innocent people and are not involved with any criminal acts in foreign countries... Go get em BiG JOKE!

Maj-Gen Surachate, who found no evidence of a rape having occurred on a recent trip to the island in Surat Thani province, reiterated that should the accusations prove to be false the Thai authorities would seek the prosecution of the teen.

He again said that the administrators of the online group "CSI LA" and The Samui Times are to be prosecuted but that more time is needed to finalize matters.

So, "the administrators of the online group "CSI LA" and The Samui Times are to be prosecuted" regardless of whether the claims are false or not?

Sure..big Joke takes on the Russkies..

Apparently Vlad is out of favour in the UK for fiddling with their deep fried Mars Bars-or their pensions, loser Brexit,or miserable weather-who's to  really know?.

Come to think of it a visit from a Thai policeman might be a tad exotic..

"Free World" hmmmm....

A prediction ;

No meeting will actually take place between Big Joke and the alleged rape victim.

Only the generals explanation for the cancellation will be reported by the thai media.

Any alternative explanations will be referred to the relevent authorities with a view to possible prosecution under the computer crimes legislation.

He's already stated that no crime took place and denigrated the girl publicly, so he's highly unlikely to change his mind, as that would involve a major loss of face.

He's prosecuting the Samui Times for what? Reporting on the allegations which he has publicly claimed to be false? This looks like a publicity stunt and another face-saving effort to suggest that they are actually taking this allegation seriously.

As for the Embassy, they seem more interested in maintaining good relations and are hopeless at protecting any UK citizen who finds themselves in bother whilst in Thailand.
