Rimmer
Towering construction crane being dismantled PATTAYA:--Pattaya ordered developers of the stalled Waterfront Suites & Residences project to remove the towering construction crane abandoned at the top of the city’s tallest building since 2016, saying it poses a safety hazard. Mayor Anan Charoenchasri said the huge boom crane has been sitting unused at the top of the 53-floor Waterfront tower since the city halted construction more than two years ago. Battered by tropical storms and months of rain and wind, the crane could fall or break, showering deadly pieces down onto surrounding property, he said. Property developer Bali Hai Co. Ltd. had lead contractor of Worakit Construction Co. begin disassembling the crane on Sept. 10, an operation expected to take 15 days. -- © Copyright Pattaya Mail 2018-09-

lanista
Isnt that the tower that was built on Buddha statue land ? Same here in Bangkok .Loads of properties that have chanote title deeds that are worthless due to sitting on temple land in the back sois of Thonburi and other central districts. What about all those villas built on mountains to get a nice view of the sea.? Im not a lawyer but Thais have said mountains are sacred resting places for spirits. Illegal to build anything on them except Buddha related structures.
Gold Star
Next time you get near this incredible eyesore, have a close look about halfway up, and check out the crumbling poorly attached and loose materials hanging off it like the piping, window mouldings, frayed tarps, glass, and concrete. In time, only after a few Bali Hai tourists get killed by falling debris, they will be putting a crane back up to demolish it.

LennyW
I was just watching some of the devastating footage of the Typhoon currently hitting Hong Kong, if Pattaya ever got hit with something like that there would be thousands killed from flying debris, all these makeshift restaurants, noodle stalls, car tents.......would be complete chaos!! Just saw a crane very like the one mentioned here being blown clean off the top of a skyscraper to the ground below!!
phantomfiddler
Should never have been given permission to build in the first place. An outstanding eyesore, an unpleasant blot on the otherwise picturesque view of Pattaya Bay.
newnative
I am sorry the crane is going. With the crane still there, the building looks like it is still under construction, even though construction was stopped 4 years ago. With the crane still there, tourists see just another new building going up. With no crane, they'll all be looking at a towering, abandoned hulk. Instead of focusing on the crane, why doesn't someone in charge grow a pair and focus on finally making a decision to either tear it down, finish it as is, or require a few floors to be lopped off. Just pick one already!
