BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian military air defences downed several missiles that Israel fired in an act of "aggression" near Damascus airport on Saturday, Syrian state media said.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said Israel does not comment on foreign reports.

During the more than seven-year conflict in neighbouring Syria, Israel has grown deeply alarmed by the expanding clout of its arch enemy Iran - a key ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Israel's air force has struck scores of targets it describes as Iranian deployments or arms transfers to Lebanon's Iran-backed Hezbollah movement in the war.

"Our air defence systems thwarted an Israeli missile aggression on Damascus International Airport," Syrian state news agency SANA cited a military source as saying.

Witnesses at a major trade fair in the capital Damascus said they saw flares shooting up into the night sky.

At some point, the Syrians and Russians along with Jordan and Egypt should just go into Israel and get it over with. Return land to the Palestinians and we will have world peace, at least in the MEast.

'nuff said. Let the fireworks begin. LOL

Seems like missus said No! to you again last nite huh?

They tried that once before when Israel was a fledging country in 67 and they still got their asses whipped. History does repeat itself.

No good doing that if they don't bomb Wall Street as well.  :cheesy:

At some point some posters may get a basic clue as to the geopolitical reality of the region, and reflect upon nonsense posted. Making up imaginary alliances is fun, though, and so is dreaming up fantastic end-results. Have another one.

Israel violates Syria’s sovereignty and international law by bombing Damascus and no one bats an eyelid. But the legitimate, secular Syrian government moves to retake its own land from Al-Qaeda in Idlib & the whole world goes mad.

Reality bites. But then again, even Russia (Assad's main backer) doesn't seem too phased. Wonder how that fits with the usual pro-Russian stance. And, of course, it wasn't "Damascus" (as in the city) which was bombed, but, apparently, military facilities of a hostile third-party.

Most of the people in Idlib are Syrians, and the land is their "own land" as well.

If You are hating the jews, why do you are not allowing them an independent country, to live on their own? Why do You want to disperse them along the world? At Israel they can defend themselves from the pogroms, and robbers. Or maybe You should like to rob some jews?

Maybe the Syrians and Russians will also get help from the Guardians of the Galaxy, esp. with those nukes.

Is there is a report that the syrians downed missiles, that means that somewhere in Syria there are a whole bunch of explosions where those missiles hit the ground.

Some countries always claim and ass kicking as a victory.

Not quite.

For one thing, such attacks usually involve decoys - whether physical of electronic in nature. So hitting something is possible, but not necessarily an actual missile.

As for actual hits - if this was a some years back, maybe not. Nowadays, and with improved systems, it is possible that there are some real interceptions, if not as many as reported.

I'm pretty sure that both Iranians and Russians are analyzing the data from such attacks and work on improving countermeasures and interception capabilities.

Appearantly all were shot down but somehow they know all were targeting an airport and locals saw flares?

The Syrian govt is as much an enemy of the Syrian people as those groups you mention.
