For a very few it is a con game to gain power and wealth and control.

 

For the victims it is simply a form of insanity and wish-thinking. The concept of death is something that many folks simply cannot face.

 

Religion is self- imposed self-deception and a scourge on mankind (and lady kind too!).

Self-delusion is rampant and could be considered simply a minor vice were it not for the thousands of years of brutality, death, persecution, bigotry, and destruction it has spawned.

And the beat goes on.
