O' Smach

I will be taking a taxi from Surin to the O'Smach border next month with the intention of going onto Angkor.

Are there any hotels in O'Smach, or very nearby, as I would rather hole up for the night than go straight through.

The usual search through TripAdvisor etc. throws up zilch so perhaps Poiet is the best bet.

I would value advice all-round.

Thanks.

Thanks.

There is very little, in the way of decent hotels there. By taxi, it only takes about 1.5 hours from there to SR, so I wouldn’t suggest it’s worth stopping there (IMO).

The O'Smach Casino Resort is just 100 meters pass the crossing and to your left, can not miss it. The crossing is Chong Chom. This casino and resort can be full of tourist/gamblers on a weekend. As DILLGAD mentioned most just grab a taxi after crossing over and go to SR for a real beer. Its about 1.5 to 2.5 hour trip by taxi from inside the crossing.

O'SMACH CASINO RESORT REVIEW

O-Smach Resort is a 4-star resort and casino complex located about 100 meters from Chong Chom (Thai/Cambodia)  border checkpoint on National Highway 68 in Cambodia.  It is also about 68 km away from Surin, Thailand and 150 km   from the  ancient Cambodian  city of Siem Reap. The casino features slots and live table gaming. It is owned by L.Y.P. Group Co., LTD, whose other properties include the Phnom Penh Hotel and Koh Kong Resort.

The 4 star property was opened in 2000 and offers 210 luxurious rooms to those wishing to stay the night.

Thanks friends very helpful.

I'll travel straight on then as that seems the best option.

I presume taxis to Siem Reap will be plentiful.

I'm new to Cambodia so wouldn't know the system with taxis (meters, what to pay? Etc.) so a little further input would be equally appreciated.

I'm aware of the need for dollars and have done most of the research for when I actually arrive.

Just agree a fee before you take off. Cannot suggest current rate (1500b ????). There are usually a few battered old saloon cars there.

Make sure to keep a good eye on your belongings. My son and I with a couple others traveled by bus in Cambodia. Had my bags

inside with me. He packed to much and had to put one in storage

under the bus. You hand the person your bag and he hands it to

another person inside the storage,

got to our destination and his expensive camera was gone. Taken when we departed not when we arrived.

+1 !

Make sure you agree on a fee before take off is MOST important !

Trip takes about 1,5 - 2 hours and is around 1500 THB

Also please note, you need 1 Passport Photo for Cambodian Immigration if you don't have it, it will cost you around 1-200 THB.

Ps: Make sure to visit Pub Street in Siem Reap.
