Two construction workers were injured in a fire that swept through their makeshift living quarters in Phitsanulok early Wednesday.

Wang Thong district police got the call at 12.37am and summoned fire-fighters to the residential compound in Moo 15, Tambon Mae Raka.

It took about 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

Banjob Jom-u, 49, and his wife, Ratanamanee Jom-u, 50, suffered burns to their arms and torsos when they were attempting to retrieve valuables from the flames.

Property owner Manat Polsawang, 65, said he’d hired workers to build a house on the site and let them live there while construction progressed.

He said the fire started in a storage room and spread to their living quarters, but the cause remains unknown.
