moose7117
there is a mobile unit that floats around between Kuru Buri and Prachuap Khiri Khan city that gets people going south.
TTSIssues
I was caught by a policeman with a camera on a tripod north of Hua Hin at one of the police stations that sits in the central reservation probably 4 years ago. The GF dealt with it. I hope Waze catches on in thailand - would be so helpful.
Vacuum
Speed traps? Start your journey a half hour earlier than planned and drive slowly.
hkt83100
Yes, they have. Especially the way around Hua Hin - Cha Am is a favorite hunting ground. Between Prachuap and Chumpon you'd better stick to speed limits. Best would be to avoid speeding anyway.

Best advice ever given on this forum ..may save a life or two (if heeded). The question is like asking "is it ok to have a few drinks on my drive journey...what are my chances of getting caught. P.S...just thought I'd add this on. I personally knew a man who thought..."it could never happen to him" (be the cause of a death)....It did! kotsak
Made a trip down to Ranong from Bangkok last year. I was more concerned dealing with retarded drivers and the potholes rather than the speed traps. There aren't better speed traps than those. ???? Pilot3Boz
I am adding Radar detector, will use the Escort 9500IX which tracks location of false alarms and marks them vis a built in GPS... a few trips and it will reduce the false alarms... Then help with avoiding the traps!!!!

Price does go up from 500 to 1000 if not paid and some talk of not being able to renew car tax yearly until they are paid ( not enforced yet) Don't forget they plan to introduce a new scheme next year to clampdown on this lack of paying etc and points maybe?? Samut i regard as BKK area, miss that bit.No doubt you are quite right, but i go easy till Hua Hins an good hour behind me. As for not paying fines, up to you. they get you when the Tax is up. Ive actually been stupid enough to go through one in BKK i new was there at 160, 3AM , 4 Lanes and empty of any traffic.Ah Well.!.
fredob43
Regardless of what some people say they are everywhere. Just came back from BKK on the 1/32 and they even have road blocks. 3 in around 150km. Stopping every bugger the ones speeding (Most) they make go to the near side and pay up 500bt. I have never been done as I keep to 110kph in C/Control. (It's a 90km road) My cab driver told me I'll be fine provided I don't exceed same. So far so good. jrjrjr
Waze shows few alerts when driving south, but most signs (maybe 100 signs on the way to the south) are fake and Waze spotted only 5 real cameras. But I also didn't get any alert around Hua Hin, so maybe all cameras haven't been reported to Waze ?
bofhman
Easy to spot the BIB with radar. I use Google Maps app on my phone when travelling. The radar chappies always have a road check a kilometer further to pull up and book folks. Maps traffic alerts me to those folks with Android phones slowing down at these spots, both graphically and tone (setting). So it's easy to slow down a couple of kms beforehand. Best detector ever. The TWO mentioned close to Cha-am Hua Hin main road intersection only one is mentioned in the Thai camera app, the second southbound flashed me at 130kph, I saw it on the bridge mounted up there next time I went past I stopped to check. Best way to avoid remove front number plate, fine is cheaper ???? just keep it in the car and "swear it fell off officer"

The better question is how many other people have had that drink that you avoided, or drive like idiots too close, speed is not really the main issue but they'll always tout it as such as the others are way harder to eradicate. Retiredandhappyhere
It is a great pity that more concern is not directed at staying within the speed limits rather than in ways to circumvent them. If any of the speedsters above ever get involved in a serious accident while speeding, I trust that they will remember their post on here, which indicates an irresponsible attitude to driving, particularly when so many TV posters frequently condemn Thais for their driving standards. Sorry, do you mean that everytime you see a red line on MAPS showing some slow trafic, it means that there is a road block ?!
