giddyup Posted November 7, 2018 Share Posted November 7, 2018 I have just repaired my Mitsubishi water pump (for house) as it had sprung a leak under the tank, rusted through and caused a tiny hole. However, now that I'm connecting it back up to the inlet and outlet, I can't seem to get a good seal, and the joint is leaking, probably because the gaskets are old and worn. I think getting hold of genuine Mitsu gaskets might be a problem, so wondering would it be possible to cut my own from an old inner tube and also wipe some silicone seal on both sides before clamping? Artisi Posted November 7, 2018 Share Posted November 7, 2018 No reason why not, but don't overtighten as it might "flow" - extrude itself as inner tubes are soft, the silicone will help. You could try silicone by itself, maybe enough to give you 1 to 2 mm thickness but not over tightened - once cured you could tighten a little more. Unlikely in Thailand, you could try your local pump supplier/repair man, or an engineering type work shop, it's probably a standard size 2 bolt flange and would be surprised if it wasn't available - but as this is Thailand it's only guess work where to start looking. Don't expect to find such stuff at the fancy home marts etc. For our (rural) district town I would know where to start the search. There are always hardware shops with a focus on water pumps. It could easily be free it is the perfect material for that kind of gasket, I would post a picture but am not sure where my own remaining piece is. Approx 100m east of the bus station on Pattaya Nua is a tool shop. They carry some spares for Mitsu pumps. Just below that shop is a hardware store that sells mitsu pumps and may carry spares. That store mails genuine parts to home owners all over Thailand. No sense in a jerry rigged solution when genuine parts are so modest in cost and readily available from a water pump specialist. Every province has at least one water pump specialist. The same sort of business that installs and repairs water pumps for hospitals, hotels, shopping centers, larger restaurants, resorts and better housing estates in each province. Agree. Lots of options available. Everyone sells Mitzi water pumps and lots of places repair them. There should be at least one guy in every hamlet. Just take your phone camera in to a few big hardware shops with the picture of your gasket and pump model. Or drive around til you find the local guy who repairs appliances etc. (they will be stacked out on the street). Some one will know. It would be a very remote place if you cant get common bits for a Mitzi water pump. I have had several re-built. The most troublesome parts are those springs under the little plastic caps. There are special do it yourself gasket materials too. Do Homes, Hardware house, Homepro Thai Watsadu, global house might have it, Or send an email to Mitsubishi water pump maker here in LOS.
