Families rescued from flooded houses in Chumphon

Two stranded families were rescued from their flooded houses in two districts of Chumphon early on Saturday while the Chumphon disaster prevention office reported that 3,882 families in seven districts were affected by flooding.

 

Following heavy downpours throughout Friday, the Tambon Haad Phan Krai Administrative Organisation dispatched officials to rescue a family of nine in Nong Bua village in Muang district at 1.30am.

 

The rescued family members included six adults, one of them a bed-ridden patient, and three children. They could not leave the house on their own because the area was under two-metres of water.

 

And Mu Koh Chum Phon National Park officials sent a rubber raft to rescue Kamol Pattanayaiying, 80, who was stranded in his house in Moo 2 village in Tambon Hin Kaew in Tha Sae district.

 

Kamol, who is blind, was stranded with a female caretaker and her one-year-old child.

 

Also on Saturday morning, troops from the 25th Artillery Battalion of the Fifth Artillery Regiment, were dispatched to provide food and drinking water to families in Moo 9 and Moo 8 villages in Tambon Pho Daeng in Lang Suang district. The villagers told troops that they could stay so they were not evacuated.

 

The Chumphon Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office announced that 3,882 families in 348 villages from 47 tambon in seven districts were affected by the floods on Friday following heavy downpours.

 

The floods damaged 235 houses, one school, 392 roads, 11 bridges as well as three village tap water plans. It said 172 rai of rice fields 2,529 rai of gardens and 110 rai of plantations were affected by the floods.

 

It said a villager, Am Thaweechart, 73, was still missing, while villager Pop Pattanachana, 84, had drowned.
