webfact
Now Thais get their lottery numbers from "the spirit of the kilometer marker" Picture: Sanook Superstitious Thais on Petchkasem road south are convinced that a kilometer stone is possessed by a benevolent spirit. They have dubbed the spirit her holiness "the spirit mother of the kilometer marker". This is because the numbers depicted on the stone have won two prizes in the latest lottery draws. So believing - and hopeful - are the lottery players that they have made a shrine of the stone and prayed to it making offerings. The numbers are 12, 15, (and on the reverse and other side) 40 and 44, reported Sanook. owl sees all
One sure way of predicting the Thai lottery numbers is to get a handful of new nails and throw them into a stream. Making sure, of course, that the water is not too deep or dirty. Then the nails are viewed from different standpoints. The winning numbers are then obvious to the enlightened. My wife absolutely swears by the method; unless she hears about a lucky talking pig.
anterian
Well you have to admit that it is less messy than cutting animals or people open and studying their entrails. Could there be a market in Thailand for Ouija boards?

I witnessed a ceremony performed by monks at the request of a builder so he could remove a coconut tree. At the base of the tree was an ant hill which they believed to be inhabited by a spirit !! After an offering of food and drink a chant was made by the monk... to evict the spirit no doubt... An hour later he bull-dozed the tree !!
