Yano Electronics workers end protest after bonus deal

By The Nation

Over 300 workers of Yano Electronics (Thailand) in Prachin Buri ended their protest early on Saturday after the company agreed to give them a bonus and promise not to punish them.

The workers have been staging a sit-in protest in the factory in Si Mah Phot district since Tuesday to demand their annual bonus.

Some 200 policemen, troops and Interior Ministry officials were dispatched to maintain security at the rally site on Friday night.

Eight workers' representatives held a meeting with the company's management early on Saturday. The talks lasted for about an hour.

The workers' representatives announced at 4am that the company agreed to a bonus equivalent to 1.3-months salary and a cash bonus of Bt3,000 as well as a commitment not to lay off or transfer any of the workers who took part in the protest.
