cleverman 369 #1 Posted November 24, 2018 One third of all Australian overseas deaths in 2017 were attributed to just four countries in this area: Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. A massive 523 deaths were recorded in these popular travel destinations, equalling around one Australian dying every 17 hours.
Olmate 218 #2 Posted November 24, 2018 I wonder how many Australians die in Australia every 17 hours?

In 2016 - 307 died every 17 hrs - in Australia - 1 in 12 from dementia, etc.. Now you know - be kind enough to tell us why it is relevant?

((edit incorrect data)) There there are a lot more living in Australia than traveling so number per day does not mean too much. But this overseas death rate might be expected to be higher as the percentage of older folks is higher - many would prefer to die in those countries than at home I suspect. KhunBENQ 10,585 #5 Posted November 24, 2018 The absolute number has a meaning only if you know the relation to Australians in the region in total and their age distribution. How many die from accidents? How many die from crime? Whats the average age of Australians in Thailand/Pattaya?

Maybe an Excel spreadsheet breaking down all the relevant data, i.e. lifestyle choices, age, profession and medical history.

sirineou 8,354 #11 Posted November 24, 2018 (edited) Australians should stay away from Australia, clearly more of them die there than any other country in the world. If I was them I would file a formal complaint to the UN and demand military intervention. Edited November 24, 2018 by sirineou
Dexlowe 3,009 #12 Posted November 24, 2018 That's the problem with Australians. Over-paid, over-sexed and over here. And then they cause more problems by dying as well.

British FO states you are 20x more likely to die on holiday in Thailand than on holiday in Europe. All the western Euro countries have similar stats for Thailand.
