A video from downtown Ang Thong showed the arrest of a taxi driver who was threatening people with violence.

He was drunk and claiming to be a Class of 75 metropolitan policeman, now retired.

He ranted that he had quit as a policeman to become a monk after a relative died.

He was eventually taken off to the police station where he was found to have a blood alcohol level of 208 mg - many times over the legal limit.

He refused to sign the paper acknowledging this fact and was thrown in the cells to calm down.

He faces three months in jail and/or a fine of 10,000 baht for drink driving and running a taxi without permission, said Pol Capt Manit Nakphaiboon of the Muang district police in the central Thai town.

A female teacher called Supathana said that she was driving her motorcycle to school when she observed the taxi driver swerving behind her, screeching his brakes and sounding his horn repeatedly.

He then cut in front of her and forced her to stop. She was threatened with violence before locals and students in the area came to her aid and called the police.
