Daily attacks in the three troubled border provinces of Yala, Narathiwas and Pattani have prompted greater efforts to protect people and businesses in the town. Betong is visited by many tourists, especially those from Malaysia. Chief Anan Bunsamran was presiding over a ceremony in front of the tourism office in Betong attended by soldiers, police, civil defense volunteers and people from local businesses. Security would be increased at local businesses, hotels, convenience stores and other important locations in the town as attacks continue in the south, said the chief. The government in November 2018 extended the state of emergency on the three southern border provinces for three more months. Somebody needs to tell the insurgents.
