webfact
A Thai-made robot that takes care of those with Alzheimer’s By ASINA PORNWASIN THE NATION Chalermpon Punnotok, chief executive officer of CT Robotics, presents Dinsow Mini 2, the companion for those with Alzheimer's that comes with artificial intelligence features. CT Robotics has launched its latest version of a Thai-made-and-designed robot, “Dinsow Mini 2”, which is embedded with artificial intelligence and is designed to be a companion for the elderly, especially those with Alzheimer’s. Chalermpon Punnotok, the chief executive officer of CT Robotics, said that this was the first time the company had developed a robot for the mass market, aimed at people suffering from Alzheimer’s. Currently, there are around 600,000 people suffering from Alzheimer’s in Thailand with the possibility of the numbers increasing rapidly as Thailand becomes an ageing society. The company sees the opportunity to deliver AI robots as company for these people. Dinsow Mini 2 is designed with embedded voice recognition, voice command and face recognition and also AI features that allow the robot to learn more about the elderly person’s voice, face, behaviour and lifestyle. Dinsow Mini 2 also encourages the elderly to do brain exercise. The company claims that Dinsow Mini 2 is the first robot that combines three AI features: voice-AI, face-AI, and pattern-AI. He said the company aims to sell 5,000 Dinsow Mini 2 within the next 12 months in four markets – Thailand, Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong. The company has local partners in each market. In Thailand, it now partners three retail drug-chain stores – Healthymax, PharMax, SafeDrug. Dinsow Mini 2 comes with cellular capability and Wi-Fi connection as well as camera, speaker, and touch-screen monitor to facilitate the elderly to instantly communicate with their family. “The elderly will be in the eyes of their family at all times as Dinsow Mini 2, as their companion, will immediately alert and contact the family if any urgent incident occurs, especially if there is a difference in the face or unusual behaviour,” said Chalermpon. Saito Masaru, general manager of Japan Genki Group, the operator of 80 elderly nursing centres in Japan, as customers and partners of CT Robotics, said the company initially aims to order 200 Dinsow Mini 2 to use in its elderly nursing centres. The company will consider bringing Dinsow Mini 2 to the mass market for consumers in the future. Chalermpon said Dinsow Mini 2 is the latest version of Dinsow Mini, which has been used in almost 20 hospitals in Thailand, including Siriraj Hospital and Chulalongkorn Hospital. “Almost a hundred units of Dinsow Mini 1 have been sold. Dinsow Mini 1 is designed for corporate use, especially hospitals in Thailand and in elderly nursing centres in Japan, but Dinsow Mini 2 is designed for home use. We plan to launch the next version with the application protocol interface to third party to develop added features,” said Chalermpon. Apart from Dinsow Mini, the company has also developed a service robot called Dinsow, which is bigger than Dinsow Mini. Three versions of Dinsow are available in the market. “We aim to sell around 10 units of the latest version of Dinsow Series 3, priced at about Bt800,000 each. In 2019, we will launch Dinsow Series 4, which will have the functions of a product consultant in a shopping centre. We aim to sell around 200 units of Dinsow Series 4 next year,” said Chalermpon. Dinsow Mini 2 will be sold at a special price of Bt65,000 instead of the normal price of Bt85,000 on the occasion of Father’s Day. I would not be surprised in the 'government' will buy the first 5.000 units to hand them out to dissenters combined with electronic tagging after AA. Embedded voice recognition, voice command, face recognition and AI features that allow the junta to learn more about the dissenter’s voice, face, behaviour and lifestyle. jerojero
Yes! Thailand well known for leading AI technology. If legit, this robot and tech would be worth billions, needed worldwide. Methinks this one ranks up there with Thai ebola cure touted in the news 3 years ago!

Katia
Seems to me this would only lead to more confusion/fear/agitation in dementia patients... might be okay when Millennials get to that age as they're used to growing up with technology, but those who are elderly right now probably would think it weird if fully cognitively-healthy.
