Slaps, were you in Goa in 85/86, Anjuna etc, with the night time beach parties and the various tribes settling down on their staked out mats whilst the Goa women made the rounds selling various snacks and beverages?

English hippie families with the de rigueur long hair, but looking tidy and clean, and trendy Italians looking so immaculate and nouveau riche.

And the electronic/house 'music' rave with its pounding industrial bass and repetitive 3 note keyboard riffs.

Thank God the DJs played the occasional song with a tune.

She really belts it out in "Trouble" and "Mechanical Heart'  she's played with a lot of the greats, Jeff Beck, Rick Marota amongst them..........I was a big, big fan of Janis Joplin back in the sixties before she fell victim to success. She ran away from home when she was Thirteen, learned to play the guitar with the 'hobos' that rode the trains and slept under bridges, got very deep into blues and gospel.  Beth Hart could be another Janis is she would just let go once in awhile.

Yes, they can handle this song.  My Amps are not the most powerful, but with .0002% total harmonic distortion at 200 watts per channel, it will rattle the windows but with Clarity!!!   Any amplifier can make noise, and/or loud music, but if you can't tell a clarinet from trumpet, whats the point??  It just becomes noise, not music.

I believe the term 'good music,' or 'bad music' is a misnomer.  I've come to the conclusion that there is no such thing as good or bad music.  How do I know?  Simply by the reputation points I get when I post a song.  By my count I should have a trillion gadzillion million points by now, LOL.  Sometimes I'm amazed when I post a song that I feel is exceptional in so many ways and I think to myself that the posters here will overwhelmingly react positively yet not a single poster reacts (I shed a tear).

 

If music is a gateway to the soul then I think it matters not what it's particular form.  Humans love to categorize.  If a song fits an individual's definition of 'good music' then they'll categorize it as good.  Stray from that limited definition, and most definitions are limited, and it's 'bad music,'  I liken the issue to Asian women as well.  Growing up in the west there wasn't an over abundance of Asian women in my experience.  As I grew up I certainly developed my definition of what an attractive woman was.  Asian features are so remarkably different that I had to redefine what 'attractive' was.  Sometimes I look at an Asian chick thinking she's comely and I wonder whether to Asian men she's less than a plain Jane.  I think my range of 'attractive' is much greater when it comes to Asian women.  I'm actually quite narrow in my definition of beauty in a western women.  That's to my detriment I know but ah well.

Long, long ago a friend of mine had rented a house in a sparsely populated area.  The nearest neighbor was over a hundred yards away.  I cannot recall the particular components of his audio system but I did know that it was an expensive rig.  The house had a large rec room connected to the eating area with sliding glass doors, which were draped with multiple layers of blankets.  Sprawled on the floor of the rec room we listened to Elton John's Madman Across The Water LP.  The volume was such that I could literally feel the vibrations of the music flowing through my body.  No distortion whatsoever.  I've never experienced it since (but man, I yearn for it).  The neighbors eventually came over pounding on the door.  There was no mystery as to why.

True dat.  I love this band.  Here's Bad Vibrations off of their 2010 Phosphene Dream release.  Good music should be listened to loud . . . very loud.

Agreed, those terms are generally subjective, but if you

listen to sh1t music all time you wont know what the

good stuff is.

So far i think the renewed music topic is doing very well.

It already has produced some very interesting remarks.

My idea is we do not really need two music topics,one for 50 60 70 and one general music post.

Like others have said music is very personal and music is timeless.

Some older groups now make modern music and some young people have the old sound.Lets combine the two topics,most poster visit both pages already.

I do not remember who but someone posted a song by the band Black Box,interesting name if you look a little deeper but that is beside the point.Where would that song be without the video?Sex sells!!!

Queen made the very first real music video and after that music has never been the same.(video killed the radio star)

A while ago i had a conversation with a real audiophile,the kind that can never really enjoy music because he was always listening for flaws,in the music itself or in the system he was listning to.

I told him i also liked good sound but i also enjoyed watching the music(video)His answer?:really?interesting concept"

 And that was that.I have a nice system with great sound but i can also enjoy a song i know on my car radio.

I hope you will enjoy this one,not typical for them but very different.

The poor man was seduced by coc( a cola) and dance/trance music. At his age he should have known better but coming from Essex county in east England, a low lying area subject to the cold winds blowing off the North Sea, he had little chance to be influenced by the magic of the West Coast of the USA.

Still, it's never too late.
