drivin' home after another day of hard and dangerous labor in the NW woods with a quart of bud and this on the box and wonderin' 'am I doin' the right thing?'...just got back from a visit with friends in Venice CA and they said 'we got room fer you here a block from the beach and you'll be a fool iffen you don't come down here and join us...' get on home to you meant gettin' on back home to California...

they won...'work all day, drink and fight....no end in sight...' gets tiresome after awhile...

Is it worth going to Ohio?

Well I went back to Ohio
But my family was gone
I stood on the back porch
There was nobody home
I was stunned and amazed
My childhood memories
Slowly swirled past
Like the wind through the trees
A, o, oh way to go Ohio

Reminds me of a Stevie Miller tune.  Someone done did this song but I can't place it.

Anyway, this one should be very recognizable.

the first one is a common riff, Cream put a nice twist on it on Wheels of Fire

'goin' up the country' referred to the migration to rural areas (especially in northern California) by young hip folks in the early 70s when recorded by Canned Heat and they included the the little penny whistle stuff as well...I had just got to SF and Berkeley in 1970 and wondered 'where's everybody goin?'...Neil Young captured a lot of this in his music about the same time...patched levis, flannel shirts and work boots were the uniform and they weren't leavin' nothin', they took the same problems with them that they thought that they were leavin' back in town...the problems with the VN war, imperialism and racism were still with us...nowhere to hide...

When I finally think of who did that tune I'll post it.  I can hear it in my head but I just can't put a name to it.  Drivin' me crazy now!!

Sounds like so many farang who come to Thailand thinking their lives will be different but then finding out that you can never leave where you came from without taking yourself with you.

Nice Cream number, tutsi.

And another Heartless Bastards tune.
