Del Shannon is de man but Bonnie don't do too bad either...great harp and backup singing by supporting musicians..

Another great female artist.  A session with Lowell George, John Hammond & Dan Friedberg on Oct. 17, '72 doing a wonderful rendition of Steve Winwood's I Can't Find My Way Home.  Bonnie's voice sounds silkier and more sultry than usual.

took them a while to tune for that one as Steve Winwood devised his own tuning for that song...pretty amazing and that established him as an all around musician and not just a keyboard man...a major talent...

WHERE'S BANNORK???

Sorry to hafta shout but bannork's all the way up north only a stones throw from the Lao border and at his age his ears are probably pretty well shot from blasting Rory too much in his younger years.

Maybe this will get him to drop in . . .

With few exceptions in all classes of music it seems the originals/younger versions were much better than the comebacks.

blob.png.f3db64c13c4bd022c2993138fa6e83d7.png

And I guess that includes my self: I had a duel existence: H.S. in San Fernando Valley ( cruising days)

But my grandparents had a beach house right on the sand , Victoria beach, Laguna ( Dick Dale days) above with long gone days of blonds. Actually this photo in Laguna was taken during 4 year enlistment in U.S. Coast Guard. wish i still looked like that

True, many of the original songs were the best version.  There was a cover version of Shop Around back in '76 by . . . Captain and Tennille.  You won't catch me posting that, though.  So many artists covered each other back then.  It was quite amazing to hear a single song done up by half a dozen different artists.  Got confusing as to who did the song originally.  Sometimes covers where done in a different style and sounded as good as the original.  In those cases I'd appreciate them both equally.

Here's a performance of the Animals' House Of The Rising Sun by Frijiid Pink from '71, although they originally recorded it in '69.  On this one I've never asked myself which version was better.  They both rock!!

BTW, nice lookin' blonde (and I ain't talkin' 'bout you, LOL)!!

But I'm not only referring to covers, that's something else. I'm referring to the original artist/group doing the same song 20 years later. In some cases they just don't have it. And in other cases the "try" to improve on their original but all they seem to be doing is stringing it along. If you know of song 20+ years later by the original artist/group that sounds better than their original, like to hear it.

Well said . . . and true.  One exception may be a live version of the original done by the same artist.  Possibly because the energy of a live performance is different than that found in a studio version.

Tippers, I've had to return to the UK as mother passed on. She had a good run for her money at 86 so it wasn't such a sad occasion. No laptop here but will be back by the 10th to bore everyone with more progressive rock etc. Miss you all.

Yes, get yourself back here Tippers is struggling on his own ( a bit of help from Roger and DB of course ).
I’ve still got my inherent YouTube problem so have taken my bat and ball home, but still follow the two music threads !!

My apologies for the festive post to draw you out on such a somber occasion, bannork, and likewise my condolences.  My mother passed when she was 83 so she, too, had a good run for her money.  And given that she had her numerous health issues, including severely deteriorating eyesight to the point of near blindness, her passing was a blessing.  It's a magnificent, intoxicating, loving, and everlasting adventure we are on and sooner or later the landscape changes for us all.  But the enchanting music and the songs continue to play on wherever we find ourselves next . . .

Been wondering about you, too, Andrew.  Seems both threads have gone a bit quite of late.  What's your issue with YT?  Maybe we can help find a solution?  Two (or more) heads are better than one (granted, some of us are former heads now).

And don't forget about tutsi, who continues to enthrall us with his spellbinding yarns of flirtations.  I've experienced at least a half dozen shockingly risque and unspeakable encounters of debauchery (with my wife, of course) directly attributable to tutsi's tales of great Ulysses.

dark haired, brown skinned sirens and their intoxicating chorus are in daily attendance at tutsi's shop house in south suphanburi...Rimsky Korsakoff and the first movement from Scheherazade suits for the sound track...listen closely and the sea fairly undulates under yer feet...

my YT problem is videos posted are randomly unavailable to view on Tapatalk and Connect apps .

Youtube for me plays normally, no problem whatsoever !! but via the above apps around 70% are unavailable !!

Its a weird one !!

A YT video I watched ( via YT app ) and then posted on this thread was unavailable to me !!

Whats that all about ??

For example: trying to view your Cream video ( via Connect app ) gave me this .

Have you checked out app support group?  I don't use either app as I'm usually on a PC.  I read where one guy uninstalled then reinstalled the app and his problem was solved.

Thanks Tippa, i cleared the cache and deleted both apps ( Tapatalk and Connect ) did a hard reset on iPhone and iPad but still no joy.

Everything works okay if i enter TVF via browser ( Thaivisa.com ) so has to be an app issue.

Anyhooo, sent a message to Tapatalk from the Connect app ( not sure of the relationship between these two [emoji848]) anyway, see if they come back to me .

Back on topic:

Here’s The Pink Fairies version of Ventures: Walk Don’t Run ( 1960 ) taken from their 1972 album What A Bunch Of Sweeties .

Enjoy

EDIT

Ironically, i tried to play the video from this post and got “ video unavailable “ [emoji20]

Definitely it's the apps.  It's all in the coding.

Quick question, does anyone get this message when trying to play a video on this or the other music thread ??

IMG_1690.JPG

Yes, at times.  Sometimes videos are taken down by YT or removed by user.  Happened on a YT video I posted just before they closed the original thread.  I came back to it to download it but was greeted with the "Video unavailable" message instead.  Searched YT for that same song (usually there are multiple uploads) but could not find it.  The only instance of it I could find was contained in a "full album" upload.

Came across this really interesting piece of history, if it is off topic mods please remove, couldn't think of anywhere else to post it.

Back to the days when you could book Pink Floyd for £250.
