Looking forward to this new series.

It screened last night on Aus ABC and watched it there. The Thai girls were hilarious and soundtrack was good. As for the rest of it, I’ll reserve judgment for now because I’m comparing what I saw/will see to all of the fantastic Les Norton novels that I read back in the ‘80s.
Am interested in what other readers of the novels think of the TV series...

I'll give anything with Rebel Wilson in it a miss.

Anyone ever watch Game of Thrones? I haven't..

Rather watch The Godfather again and again..ha

I avoided it for some reason during the many years it was on and immensely popular.

But I almost never watched miniseries until this forum got me started.

A few years ago I asked a friend about it and he said he doesn't watch it and it's a "Sword and Sorcery" story.

That didn't excite me and I passed.

Now that it's completed its run, I watched the 1st episode. And the 2nd. And on and on, 2 or 3 per day.

I advise avoiding the last 2 episodes of the final season.

I regret watching the penultimate, and skipped the last.

I don't want to post spoilers (nor have anyone else do so) in the thread, so won't go into detail and my thoughts about this aspect.

I was impressed with the spectacle of the 1st 3 seasons of "Gomorrah" - a very expensive hour to produce.

"Game of Thrones" even more so - tons of extras and locations, plus horses, plus period costumes, battle scenes, snow, many featured roles.

Very absorbing story telling and diverse interesting characters and intrigues.

Be forewarned - very gory and cruel in parts.

It's a "Blood and Gore" show more than a "Sword and Sorcery" show.

Thanks to the poster(s) who recommended "Godless". I went back to page 80 so I can credit you but missed it or didn't go far enough.

Jeff Daniels is great - his role of a lifetime. There really is no show without his performance.

I knew he was in it and was waiting for the "Dumb and Dumber" guy to appear.

Took me awhile to realize who he was in this show.

When it was first recommended, I looked up the names involved. Writer/Director Scott Frank was a familiar name and I checked his credits.

Turns out he wrote a film I liked - "Little Man Tate" (1991), directed by and starring Jodie Foster. An enjoyable dramedy about a single woman with a gifted young son.

He's directed a few films now, and I watched his first - "The Lookout" starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Jeff Daniels. Both very good, and worth a look.

Then viewed his second - "A Walk Among the Tombstones", based on a Lawrence Block novel featuring his detective Matt Scudder.

This starred Liam Neeson, and for once he wasn't beating up singlehandedly 60 or 70 people. Gripping story from the beginning. Some well done dialogue and a realistic look at some things, such as taking police corruption as a given.

Just started watching Grisse, an HBO action story about an Indonesian rebellion against their Dutch colonial masters, the first couple of episodes were pretty good. It's in English, btw.

"A group of unlikely individuals who lead a rebellion against a brutal governor, suddenly find themselves in control of a Dutch garrison town called Grisse."

I came across a documentary by US film-maker, called 'Ruth Ellis Files: A Very British Crime Story'

I found it interesting as she was the last women to be hanged in the UK in 1955.

Trying to find out the background of the mishandled police investigation and also the trial which lasted only a day and a half.

It was a 2018 BBC production. On tpb. Worth watching I thought.

Watched the movie "Spotlight" again last night and what a great movie it is..........great acting, well told and well paced story.

Surely one of the best movies of recent times, but don't get me started on the subject matter.

Saw the South Korean movie Parasites yesterday. A dark comedy that won the Palm D'Or at Cannes this year, it has a Korean soundtrack with both Thai and English subtitles. Highly reccomend, currently showing at SF Central Pattaya Beach.

I recommend the Chilean film "The Club" ("El Club") 2015.

Much tougher and darker. For me, much more powerful.MV5BMTY2OTE4NTUzMl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNDY3

Yesterday, was excellent. Dark comedy with great writing and acting. Go see.
Watched it yesterday as well. Theatre was almost full, maybe 10 seats left.

Great movie. Recommended for sure. One of my favourite one's for year 2019 and also worth watching it a second time later.

Great story and acting, and that from a Korean production.
