I just watched this ,good as usual but i must admit ,it is ridiculous the way the PC crowd  have to portray a black man leading the people in a protest against the govt . and before anyone says i am racist Luther is by far the best detective series on tv ,

Google William Cuffay and the Chartist movement, it may allay your fear of the PC crowd.

Another gem of a tv series from Spud17's new stash.

Die Protokollantin (The Typist)

Solid crime drama about a woman who sits in on police interrogations and types up transcripts, while

plotting her own personal agenda. 5 episodes with nice big embedded subs.

Possibly accurate, black people were living and working in London during the period.

amazes me posters on here PERSISTANTLY  insist they arnt racist,  yet  CONSTANTLY spend time slating black people/actors  in period dramas/shows, rather than discussing more pertinant  points about the plot acting direction or whatever,  that would or could actually be interesting as opposed to moaning about the colour of an actors skin. which effectively is what they are doing  AND THATS RACIST ,,  ,, unfortunatly ignorant biggoted is as ignorant biggoted does.

Nothing to do with being racist, it would be like having a black actor play George Washington, it would just be historically incorrect.

How is history being changed? William Cuffay was a black man who led protests against the government during Victoria's life. I am sure you will be shocked to find out that the black lady in the posts above is actually Victoria's goddaughter.

You're misinterpretating what's being discussed.

It's all the pc nonsense that pervades the media, in an attempt to make everything 'correct & inclusive'.

When facts are distorted, which we can all see they weren't in this case, then that's ok.

It just boils my pish when facts ie gender/orientation/skin colour or whatever, are deliberately switched, to make 'everthing ok'.

I expect in 50 years time, Boris Johnson will be portrayed as a Nigerian transexual, with Tourettes.

Cuffey wasn't exactly anti-trade union, according to Google, but he was anti the prevailing trade union movement which had its roots in utopian socialist philosophy. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Metropolitan Tailor's Charter Association, you could call it a trade union of tailors, and became involved in the Chartist movement (a working class political movement seeking democratic rights for working class people) after he was sacked for participating in a tailor's strike.
At least, according to Google. I wasn't there at the time.....

I presume you all know they are DRAMAS .. NOT  history   lessons  nowhere does anyone EVER say they are 100% accurate nor should they ever be told to make them so   as that would be ARTISTIC  censorship  i'm assuming you at least agree with the 1 st point and understand the second.. which makes your rants realised or not  100% about you NOT LIKING SEEING BLACK MEN on tv.. you can say but i like !!! In that role.  and thats about yout level of accepting black people as equal its plainly obvious you dont... and i'm sure your all gonna say 'oh but i do'  well sori  but when i see 'it makes my blood boil' meant in anger in reference to a black person appearing in a  tv drama.. this aint bout actin or anythin .. this is nasty biggoted and  racial biased

, one thing coming out with ohh loook at that 'n.....r   we all know and accept thats wrong  nasty call it what u will but . this is even worse because its blatently obvious its there but agueing it aint .. well is truly shocking ..

Why are you talking about Redford? Most of his movies are crap.

Because they have both released new movies in their 80's, thought that was fairly obvious. As to Redford making crap movies, a lot of people would disagree with that.

The last two movies of his I watched, I liked: "The Old Man with The Gun" and "All is Lost" (particularly liked that as so realistic).

Besides that, he has a history of making and starring in good movies........."Jeremiah Johnson" being one of his classics.

3 Days of the Condor, All the Presidents Men, The Great Gatsby, The Sting, Butch Cassidy and many more. I didn't enjoy The Old Man and a Gun though.
