IsaanAussie 1,684
Very interesting article. I am not an expert and can make no comment on the science involved but it makes sense to me. A very cloaked attack on the obvious major corporate player here at the end though. If I was still actively involved in the industry, I would adopt a strategy of complete isolation. Nothing comes in, anything that goes out, stays out. The only open issue would be the chance of infection via commercial pelletised feed. Considering the temperature and process, that seems unlikely. fourpack 346
As a matter of interest ball park figure if I may costs of sows ready to breed. Asking only as I have a vested interest (very silent partner) in a pig farm run by wife's family. Just have a sneaky suspicion about one of the managers.(uncle). Excuse my ignorance on this just trying to get a ball park figure.

Based on what you have said the price could range from 8 to 25 thousand baht maybe even more!

My best wishes and congratulations on doing as much as you can to prevent it's spread. the company laid out new plans for all the farrow farms around 5/6 months ago, ie holding pens for weaning culling and gilts outside farm area, this also involves new walk ways ect... plus all the extra work that goes into moving the animals now twice instead of once.... full spray systems at gate at front of land access (pulling more electric cables, water lines, new "hut" for the spray set up) new shower block for the lorry drivers, they all have to shower in/out, change clothes, shoes ect...the bahts soon add up, construction team happy though, wife not as she sees all the money going out she pocket 5555. we have done over the norm because of the outside feed store, (double checked and the farms of our size will not be going over to the silo feed system) so thought just build an extra feed store.... now got the great wall of isan being built around the perimeter of the land..555 looks good though. when the wife saves up we are going for a full cctv system after new year, this the wife is happy about coz it will be a new app on she phone 1

Looking very good those ones in photo were yesterdays, average 19.3 days old @ 10.75 piglets wean from each mum. i think there was 1 or 2 piglet @ 5kg most of them were around the 6kg and 27 over the 7kg going up to 8.8kg, the best we have had in the last few month have been 10.4kg range (always wean average around 19.5 days) @ that sort of weight we will not have alot, maybe 3/5 %. we get good feed back from the farms that our piglets go to. our target is try not have piglet smaller than 5.5kg @ weaning. at that sort kg average/ age the growth to 100/120 kg is quick. good fcr for the next farmer... I usually had an FCR of 2.4 as well so I am keen to know if it has been improved using commercial grades.

jompa67 48
Larger farms use to use E-Wap as a kind of air-conditioning in the barns. That's why som farm use to report a better FCR than others.
