CCTV footage shows a Thai man leading a New Zealand tourist down an alley in Bangkok moments before she was raped.

The unnamed victim can be seen sitting on the side of the road Isaarp Hostel before she is approached by the man who leads her by the hand down the dark alley during the early hours of Saturday morning.

On Wednesday, police said they had arrested local construction worker, Anat Utdee, 34, over the rape of the tourist.

On Tuesday, Immigration Police chief Pol Maj Gen Surachate Hakpal told reporters the woman had reported the rape to officers at Samranrat police station at 3am on Saturday.

Pol Maj Gen Surachate said the woman had been out drinking with friends on Khao San Road before she was attacked.

He urged tourists to be careful when drinking and where possible to remain in the company of friends.

Pol Maj Gen Surachate added that security will be stepped up around the Khao San Road area.

If you are a single woman, even reasonably attractive, you DO NOT get drunk alone.  Not just in BKK, or Thailand, but ANYWHERE!!!

She was out drinking with friends according to the above report !! How about single guys ? Can they get drunk alone ?

Only if they're prepared to wake up with a surprise guest who'll promptly accuse them of rape.

Shocked at the victim blaming on this thread,

What is the world coming to when a half-naked young white girl can't get falling down drunk late at night on her own in a 3rd world country without something bad happening to her.

It won't end well for her. The vid should show her kicking and screaming while being dragged away.

Did you ever consider that she didn't know she going to be raped at that point?  He could have been offering to get her home, or take her to the police station, or to a taxi, who knows but I am sure he didn't say "come with me for a bit of raping".

What is wrong with people on this forum?

So you think that is safe and normal behaviour of a person to be alone, really drunk, and go off with a total stranger down a dark alley?

I just wonder what sort of friends she has that left her alone in that state. It's not her fault, no matter what the doomsayers on this forum say. She made some bad judgements but that doesn't entitle someone to assault her. Nor does it excuse the rapist. In civilised societies we recognise the rights of people to be protected from rapists and others even when they make themselves vulnerable. Perhaps this says something of those posters who try to put the blame on her...

Rape and sexual assault, etc, should always be 100% condemned. Doesn't matter a single jot what built up before. Saying that any rape victim should have dressed more appropriately or drank less, etc, just gives rapists and potential rapists an excuse in their heads to do it.

When society puts all the blame 100% quite rightly on the rapist, you take away the illogical thinking there's any sense of an excuse to do this. It will never stop rape from happening completely, but it will make it happen less often.

This is rape we’re talking about. What’s wrong with everyone?

Police say no sexual intercourse took place, nobody is claiming to be raped.

(Two threads one saying alleged sexual assault not rape, this one saying alleged rape)

Alleged sexual assault,  according to the police, at the moment she's making an accusation.

Nothing chilling or unusual in the video. Guy approaches girl, they agree and walk off holding hands.

Common sense prevents a lot of cr*p happening in your life. People without it usually suffer from the consequences.

Go home & grow up little girl. And throw the rapist in prison.

Agreed, not saying she deserved to be raped but... if you stick your head in a lions mouth expect to get bitten!!!

Don't get so drunk you don't know what you're doing.. if you do make sure you're in the company of friends who'll get you home !!

Lesson learnt and a warning to others !!

well done again, another victim basher.....not saying she deserved to be raped but and then explanation of how her actions maybe lessened this attack on her......it doesn't matter how drunk she is......she has the right to not be raped....what if this was your daughter or gf........how would you be treating her now....would you castigating her on her stupidity......i really hope that this never happens to someone you care about.....

Same can be said for unattractive women as well.

Men too.

If you get black out drunk alone, you could easily get robbed. Doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman, attractive or not.

Chilling CCTV footage shows Thai man with NZ tourist moments before she was raped

A sensationalist and potentially inaccurate headline, typical of the genre. The woman claims she was raped. This allegation has yet to be proven, as has the identity her alleged assailant.

We've seen how the rabid "Me, too" witch-hunt worked out in the West. We don't need a Thai equivalent, with the court of public opinion, rather than those properly constituted to do the job, handing down guility verdicts which all too often turn out to be wrong.

They should not get drunk in public at all, alone or not. If they cannot control their drinking, then they should try and give it up.
