Well us Brits do have history that may have moved things on. I mean, the planet wants to converse in English, the worlds time clock starts in Greenwich, London..As for the Baht, who knows, seems many are suffering if they reside in LOS..

Yes, the Brits somehow managed to colonize half the planet and inflicted both their language and the Jaguar XJ6 engine on us all.

The phrase  '.....us Brits do have history.....'    is a fine example of how even the Poms can mess up their own mother tongue.   I can explain in torturous detail the rules for using pronouns in their subjective and objective forms, but it is so damn difficult to memorize.

The easiest method of deciding whether to use 'us' or 'we' as a pronoun is to remove the noun from the phrase (in this case 'Brits') and read it out

Which of these two sounds correct?:

".....us do have history......"     or '......we do have history....."

Simple really!!

I do hope that PM Theresa can steady her sinking ship.   The world needs a strong pound sterling. a powerful British Empire, and quality straight 6 engines.    Oh, hang on........Jaguar Land Rover is now owned by Tata Motors in India I think.

The top 1% of UK tax payers ie the richest, pay 28% of the total tax take. That represents just 275,000 people - how much more would you like them to pay in order to fund the lazy, woe is me, envious, life owes me a living scroungers ?

Right.

More Koolaid?

Labour voters are the scum of the earth, all want for little or no work and totally envious of anyone that has done well for themselves, the vast majority of the 200000 miners who went on strike during the dark days of WW2 were of this breed.Corbyn will probably build a memorial for them.

I have no idea what language that is - presumably you've heard of google so go and get it

Whilst there it will also tell you that the lowest earners now pay significantly less tax since Labour (with a 'U') were booted out with a significant portion paying no tax at all.

Time to put that shovel away

Who owns google? Oh, that’s right, one of the greediest richest guys in the world.

Ok then use Bing or go to the UK parliamentary archives if it satisfies your conspiracy deluded brain.

We can wait - come back when you've confirmed the facts about who pays the most taxes and the current status of the lowest earners ? But again, for the hard of thinking, MORE low earning people now pay ZERO tax in history SINCE LaboUr were kicked out.

Oh right, use Bing, like Bill Gates is on welfare

I know lots of Brits are seething about the rate of the pound plummeting although May 'vote of confidence' from her fellow MPs did help the pound bounce back a little yesterday and make some gains after the initial destruction of sterling by delaying the vote on Tuesday which was always going to make investors panic and short sterling causing a big drop.

Unless you are changing millions of baht where you would lose say if the rate was 45 baht the highest in 2018 which was very short-lived, to the lowest rate in 2018 41.275 at moment, in reality, you're losing just under 3800 baht per £1k so around £90 per £1k. Obviously, £90 can go away in Thailand fast if your fancy a trip to a go go bar. Again those are just the highest of the year to the very low of the year and has generally fixated and average around the 43 mark most time which is a fairer comparison to make to 41.2 so that would mean just an 1800 odd baht £42 odd increase per £1k 43-41.2. If that change is going to send you over the edge, then Thailand isn't the place for you, if it's really going to cramp and make a massive difference to your lifestyle just over that extra 4% odd increase.

Most guys off here are living off their pension money I would guess judging by the visa section of the forum, so it's not going to make a massive dent in your current situation. I feel bad most for people who are looking to buy property from UK to Thailand right now and would hold off on that as yes those are the people who will be getting stung hard with the exchange rate but those are a small percentage of people most retirement people or 1 month a year holidayers are just going to be losing small money because of the current baht strength and pound weakness.

There are crashes in markets all the time just look at the stock market crash in late 2008 people said it wouldn't recover, the flash crash 'fat finger trade' a few years back when it went to 1.16 briefly before bouncing to mid 1.20s for ages and when Sonos broke the pound in 1992, when the swiss central bank shockingly decided to not peg the euro in 2105 etc.  things have always been able to recover, it just takes times for corrections.

As a fellow UK person who lived in London for 21 years, it pains me to see the pound doing bad and what the government is doing with the brexit fiasco and would like it resolved as much as the next guy.

Times will change, you just have to be patient and I don't know how that will happen at the moment as the parliament is incompetent but have faith that it will be sorted eventually. People said the USD and stock market would go to crap after Trump got voted in and it did the complete opposite and the dollar index rallied to the highest it had been since 2004 and the DOW Jones rallied the whole year.

I know it's hard but try to be optimistic, it won't be like this forever.

Keep dodging the point all you like - but its getting a little embarrassing now.

So back to the point - the rich that you despise so much pay a disproportionate amount of the UK tax take - that's on public record so you can ignore ALL search engines if it makes you feel better, apply for a Freedom of information request if you like unless of course the public records office is all part of another socialist bashing conspiracy (rolls eyes) - 1% pay 28% that's fact.

The low earners now pay less tax than they have EVER done, the threshold at which tax kicks in has NEVER been higher and the amount of people who pay no tax AT ALL is at record levels.

And all done AFTER LaboUr were kicked out of power. That's AFTER.

There, I've now educated you. No thanks required. Feel free to have the last word with an unconnected irrelevant comment that steers well clear of the facts.

What point am I dodging?

I think the rich should be taxed more than the poor, you don’t.

I’m not dodging, I’m disagreeing with you.

To make it easy for that morgandave guy...

https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/710882/Table_2.4.pdf

From the above table:

From 99-08 (mostly labour years) the before tax income of the bottom 1%, 5%, & 10% increased by 22%, 22%, & 25% respectively, whereas the 90%, 95%, & 99% increased by 36%, 38%, & 55%.

Whereas from 09-18 (mostly conservative years) the corresponding before tax incomes were 78%, 67%, & 53% and 20%, 24%, & 15%.

Looks to me as if the lower paid sections of society have benefited far more than the higher paid during conservative led years compared to labour led..

(of course Blair wasn't a true labourite..)

Can you read ? The rich are taxed significantly more either in terms of actual amounts or percentages of actual wealth.

I am going to put this in simple terms for the hard of thinking - if more low earning people are paying ZERO tax, how can they be paying more tax than the rich ? Just focus on that one question as you are clearly struggling here

I know how complex this must seem to you (what with your limited resources and all) but there are a lot more hard-working middle-class people than there are money-grubbing rich.

Only the very poor pay no income taxes, and they actually pay a large percentage of their income in all the other other hideously regressive taxes you guys love so much.

Nobody pays zero tax, almost everything we buy has VAT added, services are taxed etc,Thats why the poor pay more in taxes than the rich,at the end of the month most if not all their cash will be spent and their % will be the highest,I pay my annual compulsory health insurance in one go saving 4% the poor can not even pay by direct debit they have to pay cash at the P.O or bank the same with paying gas and electricity and that usually means paying at least 2% above paying by direct debit.and so on.

usual case of folks while earning enough never seem to have anything left to pay bills, but always seem to have money for alcohol, cigs and a visit to the bookies,i was sick of hearing these sob stories within 3-4 years of starting work, its called bad management and the greed to want everything they see.
