It seems everybody has forgotten about that miraculous man who had promised all Thais would be rich within a few years when they would vote for him and let him lead the country.

That person is still a US$ billionaire, not counting all what has been hidden anonymously in tax paradises, he was elected, ran the country, made his wealth grow tremendously, before 'fleeing the scene of the accident' he was responsible for.

Are the basic Thais any bit 'rich', even just better off, since he made his solemn promise?

He chose to go live abroad to enjoy his fortune, and is still mingling with local politics. What is his name again ...?

One thing IS for sure, under his tenure the difference between rich and poor was getting lower, not higher as now under the Junta. And he did obtain a mandate to boot !

The state think-tank stated that the Thai government has given priority to the issue to achieve equal income distribution.

I'll translate that for you:

50% for the distribution towards 77,000,000 peoples of Thailand.

50% for the distribution towards 500,000 of Thailand's "richies"

So the spokesman is correct.... yes?

thais are not the only ones  with that superior attitude... couple other countries in asia think the same way

True - but at least they learned it from western society when they were colonised……!

Not surprising. Many people have said Thailand has alot in common with how they would expect North Korea to be.

It's one reason why the Thai-Chinese aggressively protect Thailand from outsiders. They have a perfect system of dominating this country of low average IQ and a docile population of brown people happy to mimick their Thai-Chinese masters.

Would any of us give up such a dominating position???

Exactly this...sums it up perfectly

This story completely makes sense.

This inequality seems to exist and grow in EVERY country proportional to the length of time since the government gang crony hierarchy has  last been fundamentally politically disrupted by war or ...

In the Land of Something Something, this crony hierarchy has not been significantly disrupted in several centuries. It uses the ruling gang to protect its capital and top position from competition through a myriad of regulation and other barriers to entry.

Worldwide, this kind of inequality can and has only arisen through mass theft inherent to monopoly gangs called "governments" and their financial cronies. Rothbard's 1969 essay on the matter comes to mind:

Thailand must reform the tax laws. Tax avoidance by the rich and multi-national companies is a major reason for the increasing wealth gap and inequality. I hope the next elected government will reform the tax structure and stop kicking the property tax law down the road like this junta government.

Tax avoidance by the rich and MNC's is a hot question in most countries. Here, you also have to add in the factors of monopolies and protectionist laws.

The Junta has done nothing to change it. But then neither did any of the previously elected governments.

Guess why? They're all part of the 1%!

Was it really? And how did his and his family's fortunes grow during his tenure? Above average would you say?

Oh I never made a remark about his family fortune. The facts are very clear, there are numerous reports that the difference between rich and poor lowered during his tenure, and went up the last 4.5 years.

Wonder how the NCPO members family fortunes are doing ? They are excempted from declaring their assets, so we will never know for sure, how convenient. If watchman is anything to go by, I believe they have it all covered, and that without even a single member of the electorate casting a vote for them...
