Kind-hearted policeman steps in after elderly man robbed of Bt500 New Year cash

By The Nation

Police say a 79-year-old man in Suphan Buri asked a female stranger to help withdraw his Bt500 New Year welfare cash only to see her walk away with the money on Tuesday.

Naeng Amputsa, who lives in Uthong district, filed a complaint of theft with the local police station on Tuesday.

Pol Capt Kittiphan Prongkham promptly handed the elderly victim Bt500 from his own pocket.

Naeng said he had waited in a long queue to withdraw the money from the ATM but, when it was his turn, he didn’t know how to proceed so turned to a woman standing behind him for help.

Naeng said the woman withdrew her own money first and then used his card to withdraw his money. But she then handed back just the card before walking away and disappearing into the crowd.

He asked others in the crowd to help look for her, but she was nowhere in sight so he went to the police station to file the complaint.

Police are checking video from the ATM security camera to try to identify the woman.
