CCTV and dashcam footage from several angles showed the shocking moments as a 70 year old grandmother behind the wheel of a Mercedes Benz collided with a furniture truck broken down by the side of a Bangkok expressway.

This includes dash cam footage from the car driven by Surang Supornsuk.

There is also CCTV underneath the expressway that shows two men, aged 32 and 22, who fell to their deaths.

Contrary to previous reports Thai Rath said that Surang has not yet been formally charged.

Her relatives have promised to fully help the families of the deceased.

The accident happened on the Si Rat elevated roadway near Wat Bua Khwan in Nonthaburi on Wednesday.

The Mercedes-Benz's onboard ECU system is being analysed by the car company's team in an effort to help police with their inquiries.

When I go to renew my 5 year old driving license, I usually see elderly people trying to take the reflex test and failing miserably. I wouldn't entrust them a lawn mower but well, TIT.

But the reflex test is more than one needs in UK to re-new DL at 70. You just fill in a form and say that you are fit  and well, no ailments, and that you can read a number plate at 25 yards (or is it meters?)

Big difference is that that Brit's are taught to drive properly in the first place, have to pass proper tests and are generally competent drivers throughout their lives.  Not exactly Apples for Apples is it ?

I'm 76 pass the test every time but I see plenty of young people who can't pass the reaction test either. So there you go.

Maybe you need to get a proper eye test.     All the elderly people in my DL eye test group passed with flying colors.

Maybe your vision or  perhaps your mind is failing you?   Sorry. ????

"Her relatives have promised to fully help the families of the deceased."

I hope this doesn't end with some tearful 'wais' (yawn!), a few thousand baht and all is forgotten. I don't care how old she is - if she wants to drive on the road like everyone else, then she should face the full brunt of the law like everyone else. There was NOTHING in front of her car that would require her to avoid or veer into the emergency lane!!!

Or, this being Thailand, perhaps the inbred hi-so elites will apply their own set of laws? I assume she's one, what with the yellow-coloured (may be a coincidence) top and a 'I-am-an-elite-don't-mess-with-me' emblem - whatever that is - on the left of the chest.

Either playing with phone, asleep or p...sed. Check her phone record and do a blood test.

It is strange but usually when these Thais have the money and inclination to drive these types of luxury motors, they very rarely appear to drink and drive, use their phones or commit any sort of act that may hold them responsible.

No doubt in the coming days we will learn that the truck was at fault and probably impossible to see on the carriageway. The purple balding bird nest headed driver will apologize, wai, maybe pay a few Baht, and then as usual all will be at peace in the Land Of Smiles, where reconciliation and non confrontation will rule everlasting.

Originally I thought she was driving in the Breakdown Lane but that was not the case although she was probably overlapping that lane because of careless driving.  The rear of the truck was sticking out into driving lane and it does not appear that it was using flashers. I am not defending the car driver but there are several factors to consider

Most crashes, deaths involve people in their twenties not old people, this is world wide, I am 82 and have no problem passing the very inadequate test to renew license in Thailand but see many much younger people having trouble both Thai and Farang, had a number of bad crashes when I was young, wrote off three cars in all. have not had a crash or anything for years now, just matured. some very bad older drivers and all age.

She must have fallen asleep or looked in another direction when she hit the truck. Very stupid and I hope that old woman will never sit in front of a wheel again .

Or behind a wheel !

Saying that the rear of the truck was “sticking out” into the driving lane is a bit of an exaggeration. If the driver of the Merc tries to use that excuse in court, her defence would be torn to shreds by the forensics experts on ThaiVisa.

These are my screenshots from her dashcam video. It’s a clear straight road; visibility is good; traffic is light; everybody else manages to see and pass the truck.
