A jetski rider is in custody after an accident that left a Dutch tourist in hospital yesterday.

Fellow tourists said that the Dutch lady was about to enter the water at Jomtien when a jetski plouwed into her sending her flying on the sand.

Sawang Boriboon rescue attended the scene and took her to Bangkok Pattaya Hospital. She appeared to have suffered possible knee and leg fractures.

One tourist told Sanook that the jetski was going "very fast".

Rider Pornthiwa Karakate, 22, said he had tried to avoid another tourist and ended up going into the lady at speed.

He said he had borrowed the jetski from a friend. He had no license.

Police took him away to face charges.

Pesky tourist got in his way.

Are there not allocated areas where jet skis can / cannot be used?

Is there are monitoring / signage to inform swimmers not to swim in the zones where jet skis are allowed?

Yes there are for tourists, many large horse shoe areas with boarders clearly marked with floats

She shouldn't have been there but he shouldn't be flying in knee deep water

The Dutch woman should have been warned about this, do not rent jetskis in Pattaya!

Anyway what is a young Dutch woman doing in Pattaya, sin city?

Oh I forgot, its a family destination now.

Yes, jetski operators have a bad reputation in Thailand.  However, the report doesn't say that the guy was a jetski operator.  So, to give him the benefit of the doubt, I'll just refer to the him as one of the thousands in Thailand without a licence, and the "Me, Me, Me" attitude.

At least the roads will be a little safer, with him riding a jetski.
