A university student has gone to the police in Petchaburi to complain about fake news that listed her as dead after an attack in Cha-Am.

Methawee Niamsri told Muang district cops that the story had caused trouble to her and her family.

People were phoning to find out if it was true that she was dead.

It had been reported on the site of gmmwork.com/GM/1176 on December 13th that three men had robbed her of a necklace then dumped her in the sea.

The fake story spoke of a 17 hour period in which the eastern area of Cha-Am beach was shut down by the authorities who found her shoes then her dead body floating out at sea.

Local mayor Nukoon Pornsomboonsiri suggested that malicious forces were at work to damage tourist in the seaside town.

He warned people not to share the story and to ignore it as it was all lies.
