The estranged ex-boyfriend of a university student killed a security guard before shooting his ex-girlfriend and turning the gun on himself on Tuesday night in Lampang province.

Damrongchai Monotham, 39, died at the scene, but not before killing his former girlfriend Boonyaporn Kantalah, 21, and security guard Weerapong Morpa, 28.

Umaporn Srichampa, an acquaintance of Damrongchai, said he appeared drunk when he walked into the entertainment venue on Soi Mooban Wiang Bua. “He grabbed his girlfriend’s arm and dragged her out while she was with her friends, both men and women, at the place,” Umaporn said. “He threatened everybody by pulling out his gun and demanded that nobody intervene.”

She said she tried to stop Damrongchai at one point, but relented when he turned the gun at her.

So in the end, four security guards, including Weerapong, followed Damrongchai and Boonyaporn in the hope of helping her.

“I saw five men and a woman walking out of the soi. They had some arguments and then I heard several gunshots,” another witness said.

The injured were rushed to Lampang Hospital and police have cordoned off the site. Initial investigation suggests that Damrongchai had been drinking when he found out on social media that Boonyaporn was partying with friends nearby. After they broke up, she had repeatedly ignored his efforts to reconcile, which might have driven him to anger.

After shooting the security guard and Boonyaporn, Damrongchai shot himself with the last bullet.

What a terribly poorly-phrased headline, appalling journalism.

The ages alone, let alone the behaviour of the murderer, tell you that this certainly wasn't the "love of his life" but rather a pathetic, very-soon-to-be-middle-aged wannabe gangster who needed a young trophy girlfriend but was just not up to it. So, with the insecurity of a 5-year-old goes out armed and drunk and kills 2 innocent people.

Perhaps, but it's certainly and considerably more snappy than your effort!

It's all been said before... In so many similar cases here....  That occur again and again, with jealous Thai males as the perpetrators...

You know what I mean!

Happens the world over. In the US Chris Watts not long ago killed his daughters and wife because he wanted a different life. It comes from a source of dissatisfaction of the current situation, wanting things to be different, and a total lack of empathy.

UH HUH!!!  Here we go again, hind brain processing at work, welcome to the land of smiles.  So disappointing when these Thai males decide to express their rage and take you with them into the light.  Is there really no other alternative.  So sad this will NOT end.  I simply avoid by staying way under the radar as much as possible.  Don't piss them off, they can be worse than what immigration can do to us farang.

Here is a lesson for all the keyboard have a go heroes. You could end up like Weerapong. This guy Damrongchai sounds like a loose cannon. I wonder why Boonyaporn was attracted to him in the first place.

Yep, assumption...if someone pulls out a gun assume they intend to use it.

When will these dickless Thai boys grow a pair, and move on from whatever is making them unhappy, like most men in first-world societies do, instead of becoming barbarians every time things don't go their way? All they are capable of is using their guns to solve everything - from traffic disputes to household squabbles. Are they really so small down there that the gun is the only solution for them to feel like and be 'men'?

All women are attracted to drug dealers, gangsters and murderers, AWALT.

It's part of biological programming to select the most brutal and violent partner therefore able to protect her and her offspring.

What a F_ _ _en Ar_ _ hole.. the self ingratiating arrogance of belief and entitlement that he can conduct himself in this way with the lives of others..

Yet another thai male from an emotional balanced up bring courtesy of his mother and father.

“Dead now”, so NO accountablilty to anyone  What a weak arogant selfish and pathetic way to solve his heart ache.

Another emotionally  retarded Thai male distroys a young persons lively hood and future and an innocent 3rd party as well.

His familly will live under the shadow of his shameful and disgusting behavour for ever,  while the families of the others will wear there grief everyday. Knowing that there will be no accountability for his actions. Just sorrow and misery.

True. But here, Thai males have a particular refusal to accept rejection.

I know one case where a Thai was unfaithful to his gf and forgiven, was unfaithful again and his gf finished the relationship. They'd been in a relationship for 5 years. The guy refused to accept it and kept telephoning her several times a day for over 12 months only relenting when she married someone else. Even then prior to the wedding he pestered her parents and threatened to turn up and cause trouble before finally running back to mummy. Some just turn violent. They can't take the perceived loss of face.

And your reasoning comes from where? Evidence? The fact is that not only Thailand has occurrences of jealousy and crimes of passion. These impulsive reactions re: relationship "issues" occur in countries outside of Thailand. Trouble is that innocent victims of that impulsive behavior are shot- as opposed to acceptance and moving on. Human behavior and thinking- particularly with males who are jilted.

So sad that once a relationship ends for whatever reason, the gun comes out. And speaking of that, why is Thailand not more restrictive of gun ownership? Gun violence occurs not only in Thailand, but the US where access to guns is lenient. But people with guns do not always shoot their partner. A control of guns would help, but as far as male Thais impulsivity good luck with that.

There are very few 'innocent victims' in life, most of these incidents are entirely predictable (based on the 'victims' life decisions).

If she hadn't chosen to be a sex worker (21 + 39) and hung out in an iffy entertainment venue (4 bouncers), she wouldn't have been shot/raped/arrested for drugs/etc.

If he hadn't chosen to work as a bouncer in a dodgy bar, he wouldn't have been shot.

People that study at university, work in an office, stay faithful to one partner, and watch TV in the evenings are rarely murdered. Those that choose to take life's shortcuts (drugs/prostitution/gambling/crime) tend to have shorter (but more exciting) lives.
