The Malaysian Foreign Ministry is advising Malaysians residing in Thailand or travelling to the Kingdom to “remain vigilant and exercise caution at all times”, in the wake of bomb explosions and shooting incidents in the country’s southern provinces.

Officials say bomb explosions and shootings had been reported in different parts of Narathiwat and Songkhla. No Malaysians were affected by the incidents, it said in a statement today.

Wisma Putra said Malaysians are encouraged to register themselves with the Embassy of Malaysia in Bangkok or the Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla while they are in Thailand.

How about Thai government also warn Thai people? Thai wife didn't hear about statue bombing, track bombing, etc... plenty about TV and film "soopahstahs" however.

" “remain vigilant and exercise caution at all times”

Bombs don't go off like in Bruce Willis flick... no time duck, run away, react. You're there.. BOOM... you go to pieces

Should recommend them all to go to Chiang Mai instead, and steer clear of the loonies down South.

I am with Digger on this... Been living in the "restive South" for over 5 years and find it safer than a late nite pub crawl in almost any Australian major city.

HAHAHAHA you gotta to be kiding me, are you seriously saying that in south where gang warfare, daily shooting attacks, bombings, drug gang violence is safer than a Pub night in any major city in Australia, where the worst thing happens is brawls and some chairs flying, people from first world countries are funny.

songkhla is rarely affected by terrorism, majority is in pattani, yala, narathiwat, songkhla has many murders though. just today a shooting in hat yai killed 1 man and injured 5 others.

ima just leave murder stats and gun murder rate here, and let you decide wich one is the safer country.

Australia population 24 million - 246 murders = 1.02 murders per 100,000 people.

TH population - 68 million - 3,000 - 4,000 murders = 4.41 - 5.88 murders per 100,000 people.
