I had thought from the headline it was an English person being arrested rather than an English teacher, whose nationality still remains a mystery. He definitely had some balls though, running this operation just round the corner from Narcotics Suppression HQ, and got away with it for 2-3 years apparently.

Nice point ! This is the problem with criminals, they never know when to stop.

I hope that he made enough money and was able to save it to make his life better for the next years...

Sad when anybody working in a garden get caught !

It’s been said millions of times but why do people put themselves in such a position in a country where any kind of drugs puts you behind bars for a long time.

be it in uk or au or alike, most likely a huge fine or no more than 12 months in jail where as here, looking at 3-5 years at least

In the UK the left leaning police no longer worry about drugs. In fact the association of Chief Police Officers supports legalisation of some. They are not as good as the Thai Police in fact!

This guy was not selling anything and was charged with possesion of 60 grams of weed.  The police did not find any plants and all the items in the photos were purchased legally.  He had grown some plants in the past for his own use as he was suffering from depression and anxiety attacks.  He made the mistake of telling a thai friend (who grew up in the states and was fluent in english) about his ability to grow.   That friend was caught with much more serious drugs and gave the police his name along with the fabricated story that he was selling online in order to get a reduced sentence.  The police went into the building thinking they would find hundreds of plants growing because they beleived the story given to them by the thai friend.  After busting the door to his apartment in all they found was a small room which had at one time been used to grow a few plants but was now empty.

In all other drug cases the police have a table with all the packets of drugs on display.  If you notice in the pictures of this case there are no drugs shown at all.   The so called 5 liters of oil was actually a jar of 100% alcohol which can be purchased at any hardware store and (also, the jar was not big enough to hold 5 liters it was more like 1 or 2 liters.)   The jar was used to soak the bowls from bongs and pipes to clean them and had been on the shelf for several years.

The actual police report which is sent to the court says nothing about selling anything.  However the police still confiscated his car, phone and computers. They also froze his bank account.  He has no way of contacting the majority of his friends to let them know the truth as all his contact information is on his phone.  Normally when the police find a small amount like this it is just a matter of going to court and paying a fine. The penalty for this offence is a fine of up to 50,000 baht and or up to 5 years in prison. In previous cases the punishment for this amount is usually 20,000 baht fine.  However, it is up to the judge and in thailand there is no  such thing as a plea bargain.

Thank you. I wish the guy the best, is he still in jail now ?

The problem with most people is that they think that they have friends. Stupid.

When doing illegal activities not even your wife, brothers or parents should know about it.

People all are snitches who chit in their pants like little girls. Do not trust anyone and you will be fine. Cops here are too stupid to find you without a grass.

No, he is not in jail. He spent 1 night in jail and went to court the next morning and bailed out.  He is waiting to go to court and recieve his punishment which should be a fine which he will pay and the case will be closed.  However, if the judge wants to he/she can send him to prison and make him pay a fine but going to prison for having 60 grams of weed is not what normally happens in Thailand.  And i agree with you about friends but when it comes to family i think it would be best if they didnt know because it puts them in danger and would most likely cause unneccesary stress.  I dont think it can be simplified as every family is different.

I really think it is ridiculous to punish someone for growing a plant in the privacy of their own home which they will use in their own home for the purpose of helping them to have a better quality of life.  How can anyone justify ruining someones life and as if that is not enough then making them pay a fine and possibly putting them in a cage like an animal because they grew some plants.

The human body contains a system which sole purpose is to except and process this plant.  That fact alone should be enough to prove that this plant is something that the human body uses and in many cases truly needs in order for us to be healthy.  Even in this country where the punishment is so harsh, it has managed to actually save the lives of people who were sent home by their doctors to die.  On top of that there has not been single case of someone dying from consuming this plant.  On the otherhand alcohol has killed and continues to kill people in so many ways and in many cases it lowers peoples quality of life.   Its a shame that the reason for making it legal for medical use is because governments now see that they can profit off of something which they had nothing to do with creating. First they made money by making it illegal and punishing and imposing fines on people for using it.  Now they see they can make significantly more money by making it legal and putting huge taxes on it or growing it and selling it themselves .   Its all about the money and always has been.  There is nothing that justifies preventing people to grow and consume a plant.

Humans have and continue to discover, invent and create countless amazing things but just imagine how much more advanced we would be today if all the time, money and labor that has been put into controlling and restricting the use of this plant had been instead put into areas that actually need it.  Cannabis doesnt need to be controlled by humans it is just as much a part of the earth as any other plant or animal.  Lets put more effort into controlling the problems that humans have created instead of something that was here long before us.   How is this not common sense?

So what about the picture of the plants? Why did he have weighing equipment if he didn't sell?

Wouldnt it be great if all the effort that has been put into controlling cannabis, were instead put into finding a way to put an end to racism which is getting worse everyday in Thailand and the rest of the world?

Instead of finding a way to stop racism, wouldnt it be better to try to stop people killing each other ?

Jarataka must be the weed grower's relative if not the perp himself.

Everyone has been asking where this guy taught. Worked at American School of Bangkok and did not have a degree to teach. Feel sorry for the family unless they were in on it.

The videos and pictures showed a commercial building. I did not see anything that looked like an apartment complex. He was renting a commercial building?

Took my children out of ASB after this hit the news.

Some parents have said that he has family members working at ASB, D-Prep, Minder Pathana Suksa, and Keerapat and that they are not qualified teachers. Why are these schools taking chances? Are they doing background checks? This is scary...
