Diarrhea for over 6 months

As you are getting explosive diarrhoea nearly every day, it could well be something like Norovirus. I have suffered with this before and it is not at all pleasant and at times not enough warning that you have to go.

With Norovirus, it is very easy to keep being re-infected and you need to clean very carefully after every poop. The explosive nature means that faecal matter is spread much further than you would imagine. Clean all surfaces in the bathroom and shower after every poop.

See a doctor.

I agree with the suggestions to see a GI specialist at Bumrungrad.  If you are stubborn and/or cheap and willing to risk your health, the other suggestions for tinazidole/flagyl will likely fix you.  Most pharmacies have a product called Bioflor.  You can try taking 3-4 sachets a day to begin with also while reading thru TV and trying to make up your mind on seeing a doc.

Best of luck...

Quick fix to try: go to a pharmacy and ask for Albendazole. It’s an anti parasitic. Worms are incredibly common here! Take 400 mg with dinner 3 nights in a row. Then repeat 2 weeks later to kill any eggs that hatched. No side effects, very mild on the body. NOT an antibiotic, don’t worry. Harmless to you, only kills worms.

that's the challenging part

I assume as I have no serious symptoms like pain/blood/vomitting etc. the doctor will just save face and feed me a cocktail of useless meds. that's my usual experience anyway

I sent you a PM.

The specific parasites this treats do not usually cause diarrhea.

i can't believe the "medical advise" that is being given out on this topic.

get to a doctor ASAP.

https://www.bumrungrad.com/doctors/Orapin-Tanapanpanit

The above is the responsible guidance. Anything other than this is irresponsible BS.

Considering the age and lifestyle of the typical TVFer, the condition will most likely be due to;

1. Medications: Some medication combinations can  produce this result

2. Chronic disease: We see this with patients who are HIV+/HEP+

3. Parasites

4. Cancer

5. Lifestyle

You need a stool culture and  appropriate blood tests (repeated).

The choice is yours. Ignore the condition and you will most likely die, or be dripping feces into a bag..

More than save his/her face they could save your life.

had some long time issues with gut, getting more over sensitive, also awkward feeling over there. Also with diarrhea.

Still getting worse in gut feeling, back to doc , parasites negative, investigation cancer negative, so i got

duspatal retard 200, or mebeverine. That worked, my guts got more at ease, felt way much better overall.

The awkward feeling is gone, however not always without diarrhea, differs. I refuse to give up spicy food, coffee or beer. Irritable bowel syndrome?

Maybe also reaction on gluten, which is found in many foods!?

Will go back to find out if it s like that , gluten intolerance.

Weird you have to give the doc clues to figure it out. You almost have to be doc yourself by browsing internet and tell them, as from his point he didnt check the parasites, i had to say. I didnt say yet gluten, but will then.

First doc was thinking about groin rupture. However specialist didnt see my complaints with it, didnt do surgery as scan didnt show. I could have done, as he suggested it (see operation) but cutting while they dont know for sure?

Any case try to find out with a doc.

Diarrhea can be a symptom of many nasty things, but if you are not losing weight it is more likely to be a local problem. Are you on any chronic medications? Sometimes these can contribute to diarrhea.

I had diarrhea for 6 months or so, but stopped taking a particular medication and it seemed to resolve itself.

I get this if I drink too regularly ( not too much) and I rectify it easily with a couple of tablespoonfuls of apple cider vinegar ( with the mother) three times a day preferably before food. You can mix with a pure juice to make it more palatable. Get off alchohol for a while and dont eat street food for a while. The Bragg make of Apple cider vinegar is good. See your doctor immediatly if it persists after trying the above for two days.

Cyril,

You don't say how old you are, which could be a factor.  Older people sometimes suffer from irritable bowl syndrome (IBS).  But it could be a number of other problems.

Health care is excellent in Thailands...if you know how to find a good doctor.  Once you find a good one, let him/her refer you to specialists who they know are good.  (Remember: 50% of all doctors graduate in the bottom half of their class!  In Thailand, many are posted upcountry.) You need a gastroenterologist.  If they recommend a colonoscopy, do as they say.

As previously recommended, go to a good hospital.  Some government hospitals (Siriraj Hospital, Thammasat University Hospital, etc.) are excellent.  They may not be pretty, but don't let the furniture or queues deter you. They often have the same doctors who moonlight at Samitvej or Bumrungrad.  But they are much cheaper in their day job.

Best of luck,

Don

Right you are cyril sneer. Keep away from those quacks. The only thing they will relieve is money from your pocket.

Try my remedies first; as of NOW. No time to dilly-dally. Get yourself sorted.

The three mushrooms that should be a part of any farang's diet here; reishi, maitake and shitake. Also, knock the alcohol* on the head for a week. Cut out cheese and chips.

Stop intaking sodas, caffeine, alcohol*, and sugary, foods. Instead, eat wholemeal bread (if you can get it), fruits (especially apples and papaya) and FRESH vegetables**, fresh grains and healthy fats found in tilapia, snake-heads or frogs. Nuts are better than meat for protein.

Also, it is worth trying (if you have a western toilet) an exercise, while you are on the loo doing your stuff. keep your knees about 15cm apart. Lean slightly forward and put your elbows on the outside of your knees. Now push your legs apart and resist with your upper arms. With a bit of practice, you can train the body to work on the stomach area.

* Except for the initial reishi wine trial.

** A lot of the veg' in Thailand is full of nasties. Grow your own, or get them from a sound source.

I think this is yery poor advice. I certainly would not consider eating any green vegetables and fruit - which are certain to keep your bowels loose. Nuts can do the same, despite their other attributes. I suspect mushrooms are in the same category.

I agree with many other posters. After a few weeks you should have visited a doctor. In CM there are several good, honest and professional doctors who can help you. Continuous loose bowels are also an indicator of more serious symptoms, one of which is cancer.

I don't know how old you are - or whether you are shy/embarrassed to talk to a doctor about such personal problems - but I assure you, you really do need to do something right now! don't put it off; the longer you let it go on - the more chance there is that if it is something really serious, it might be irriversible!

Do something about it today! It could save your life..........

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep you all updated to see who gave the best and worst advice.

One thing I didn't mention is a gas problem, so even if I have diarrehea once in the morning, this will be followed by another 4-5 trips to the toilet when just gas is coming out. This is why I think it's dietary problem I can fix myself. Previously I was drinking 5+ large bottled beers a day, along with 3+ coffees, 3+ spicy meals (including street food).

FYI i'm middle aged, live too far from Bangkok and only meds I take is omeprazole (for acid reflux)

Water actually triggers it first thing in the morning

You might just have given out an important clue here. Have a read of this article and I would suggest you do further research. I think that 4-5 large bottles, that's 6 to 7 litres approx. is too much. Read on:

if you stick dirty fingers in your mouth (e.g. pick food from teeth etc.) or even accidentally swallow water in the shower this can be a cause. Beta-gen and good yogurts may help. there is a herbal tablet you can get from privately owned pharmacy's that work in hours.

??? Did a trip to a doctor not spring to mind ...before asking on a forum?

And if the doctors can't figure it out, then ask the experts in TV.

on occasion i'd venture to guess some posters here could actually figure out stuff that some local physicians cannot

you may want to amend your post.  without positive confirmation of a parasite.  albendazole is a drug that is commonly known to "live in infamy"

Excess micro-beast activity. Easily sorted IMO. Just follow my instructions on an earlier post.

Keep away from the white-coat crowd. Not good for your health, or your wallet.

Get yourself well bro'. LOS is no place for the sick or skint.

lots of things you continue to eat and drink are considered irritants and  or stimulants to the digestive tract and may be enough in of themselves to produce diarrhea. this is not to say something else may be going on.

you may want to to give your gi system a rest
