Pay decent wages and there will always be Thais who want to be policemen. I had frankly not expected a TVF member to suggest that bribery should not be abolished because it might make the job less attractive to Thais. In other words just continue the whole scenario which supports corruption, gifts etc., as standard for the police and an attractive reason, for some, to join the police. Ultimately the job of a policeman should fit within the specific reasons why any country has a police force, and the duties should be well laid out and totally aligned to the reason why the country has a police force and with appropriate salaries etc., and an expectation of professionalism. People who find all of this unattractive (professional police) are simply not the type of people the police should be recruiting. Massive change is needed, and the national top cop says nothing, is almost never heard or seen. Still a very long way to go to get this right.
