webfact
More hugs and wais as Thai honesty and police helpfulness confirmed Picture: JS100 Tears of joy and hugs and wais were the order of the day yesterday as a Brazilian tourist got her money back - all 100,000 baht of it. Paula Spindler had left the cash in two envelopes on the counter at a mini mart in Samut Songkhram. But sales lady Pornpailin Seesot noticed it and alerted the authorities who contacted the thankful Brazilian in Krabi. Picture: Sanook Yesterday at Suvanabhumi Airport the head of the tourist police Maj-Gen Theerayuth, JS 100 Radio executives and the press turned up for the big "hand over". Mum Paula expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the honesty of Thais while the large police banner said it all: "Thai Police - Service from the Heart - We'll get your money back". Picture: JS100 Thaivisa notes that the high profile media event will be a shock to those that believe such stories are merely conspiracies staged to improve the country's image after negative press. Judging from the number of expats I know, who, when trying to deal with the police here, find that without paying them bribes will do nothing. The highest bribe was a German guy who's car was hit by a Thai driver who was going the wrong way on the road. The police wanted 10,000 Baht to 'investigate' it. So I'd suggest an addendum: "We'll get your money back out of your bank account - for our own benefit." Not forgetting our own Colin Neil's documented police no-show when he contacted them a few months ago.

thequietman
Celebrating the fact that if you leave your money behind, we won't steal it! Is this really something to be proud of? mercman24
minds of children again, anything for the photoshoot, nothing to do with the cops, the finder reported it and the loser did the same, so case solved, any other country money would be just handed back, no fuss, no drum rolls, if they could only see how foolish they look, nah !! forget it, NEXT CASE, will be taxi driver handing back a phone

When I last went back to the UK, I left my wallet at the checkout in Tesco. I realised later, and went back to Tesco. My wallet was with customer services. I thanked them and also the cashier, but strangely enough there were no police or tourist agencies who felt the need to contact the press for a photo-shoot. Strange. The next day, when I realised where I had left them, I went back to the bar and they were still on the table. I was lucky. Could have lost 99 baht there. Oziex1
I was silly enough to leave my wallet in a taxi in Phuket no cash in it. I called the driver, he returned with my wallet and charged the fare for the return journey. He said he was at the airport I was in Rawai, cost me Bt700. I was happy to get it back. ChipButty
We had a family stay in our villa over Xmas and NY great time was had by all, on the day they were leaving was early in the morning as they had to take a car back to the airport then catch a flight to BKK. I had asked them have you checked everything..........? Yes, When they had gone the cleaners moved in as we had other guest arriving later by this time we found a bag in the safe with 3000 Euro's in it, we tried to contact them and some stage of the day they realised they had left it then they contacted us we told them we found it. As it was my wife had to go to BKK that evening and would meet them the following day to give them back she met them in Paragon and gave it back, They gave her 20 Euro's tip cheers! They could have lost the lot when other guest moved in and used the safe. At least we did the right thing and got it back to them
